Truck started stalling, took to shop, tried new fuel filter but still fuel pressure not right. They're loking at it now, mentioned governor on Injection pump may be gone and need new injection pump??? Had new one dealer installed 40k miles ago,all highway driving. Lift pump done a year ago and can hear it clicking ok.
Any insight on what else other than the injection pump it might be, and I can make sure they check?

First off get your truck out of the dealership. They know nothing about them at all. They always say you have to replace your IP, no matter if your problem is a flat tire or an actual issue with your IP.
Second off please fill out the diagnostic checklist(links in my signature) so we can be of better help to you.

If this is the 97 in your sig, and they're saying the IP is bad because of a governor, get it out of there ASAP. They don't have a clue what they're doing. The DS-4 IP has no governor, that'd be like saying you have a sticky fuel rack. It's an electronic pump, computer controls fuel delivery, RPM, and everything.

It sounds like the beginning of yet another stealer horror story. Get it out of there NOW. They have proven they are idiots or crooks by saying the gov. is shot. If the ip only has 40,000 miles on it, it is very unlikely that it is shot. Now if the fsd/pmd is still on the pump or in the engine bay ,it could be shot. There are many other possibilities. The checklist will help narrow them down. You are headed in the right direction by coming here for help.

Mechanic checking on this (not the dealer) says no pressure to injectors and need either the IP or "module". Module costing about $500? IP, he'll check.
Says new cleaner diesel fuel has far less lubricant and should always use additive? IP s are lasting much less.
Any advice on how to know which??

The chances of the IP going at 40,000 miles is slim. but it can happen. The "module" being refered to is the PMD(Pump mounted driver) This drives the fuel solenoid on the IP and has 2 500w transistors inside it. That sucker will get real hot real fast without proper cooling. The PMD is mounted in the IP in the "V" of the engine and is cooled by the cold fuel coming in. Unfortunatly, the cold fuel isn't cold enough. Electronics don't like heat. Get the picture?
The PMD doesn't cost 500 bucks. You can get one made by D-Tech that costs half as much and is designed with far higher tolerances than the standyne model.
He is right on the less lubricant part. ULSD has much less lubrication capabillities. And since our IP is lubricated by fuel, yes additives are needed. Recommended 120:1 ratio of 2 stroke engine oil(basically 1 ounce per gallon) in order to solve this problem. Diesel Kleen has a lubricant in its mixture that will lubricate your IP in place of the 2 stroke oil(as well as give you a boost across almot everything fuel related)

Latest update:
Mechanic says it needs a new IP and $2100 installed. I asked if sure it wasn't just the PMD and he says yes. Anyone knowlegable feel free to call me right away and advise before I tell him go ahead. 408-390-4572

You've already heard from 4 different people, who told you (accurately) that the DS-4 IP doesn't have a governor, despite what your dealer says.
That alone would worry me.
There are a ton of threads on here about people being ripped off by dealers and how every issue is an IP issue in their eyes. The same ton of threads talks about what the OTHER causes of no-fuel-no-codes might be.
A prudent person might pay attention to those.
I have no idea what one more phone call would do for you.
The good part is, GM needs the business.

Final solution:
Mechanic said $2100 was total but IP would be a rebuilt and that was $1300 of that amount. I jumped online and overnighted a new one to him for $1120. Even though he won't guarantee that one after I drive out, I feel better with new plus just as likely I won't be anywhere near here if it did break down again.
He said he tested PMD by using another one. I told him save my parts so I'll have a spare PMD. To test it just plug it in and try to start it right? Can't hurt my new IP right? I could test that PMD myself now and if it fails then he ripped me but hey I'm stuck out of town right now.
Note: will use additive now regularly since the new low sulfer diesel.
