The starter has always been sorta slow on the 6.2L Diesel that I am putting in my '67 C-30('88 Suburban J code). Today it finally went out. My question is that since I am going to have to replace the starter anyway, can I use one of newer style high torque gear reduction starters? I have seen these, and I would rather have a better starter than a stock one anyway.

Do it by all means! There are some differences in the snout but I can't tell you what they are for sure. I had one that I had to grind the snout a little to get it to fit with my 92 nvg 4500 bellhousing. Great starter compared to the other style.:grd:

The starter and alt went out on my '84 6.2 GMC soon after buying it. I was shocked at the price, $150.00 or more if I remember right. It seems to be a Gear reduction item. Maybe that is the one for you. My truck is an 84 with auto if that helps you in your search. Good Luck, Brent
