The stock 245 junk tires that came with our trucks are load range E and say they are rated for 3040lbs. I'm looking at some new BFGs 265-285 range and the load range on these is D, but the rating on the side is higher than the 3040lbs of the stock tires. Does this seem strange? I'm getting a 30ft 5th wheel here in a few days, and I want to make sure I get the right tires. Will the BFG load range D work as well as the stock load range E?
I've asked this question before, and received a lot of ideas, opinions, and options. Basically, what I've found is that yes, the 265 "D" is rated for the same weight as the 245 "E" rated tire, but the sidewalls aren't as stiff, so it sways a bit more when heavily loaded (I have a camper). Upgraded to 265 "E" rated tires (3400 lbs ea) and the sway was reduced. Just my experience.
If you don't have to have BFG's, then you can find 265 and 285's in load range "E" from Toyo and others. Best of both worlds - big tires and a whole lot of capacity (+ stability).
Not sure how different your experience would be with a 5th wheel vs a slide in camper. Good luck

The more air volume that is in a tire, the more weight it can support. Load rating always goes up as tha tire gets bigger. If you sat on 1 foot balloon with 2 psi in it, it would pop. If you sat on a 10 foot balloon with the same air pressure, it would support you...
