i am ok with everything about the truck, ordering it new so i know it will be right.

But here is the question....

I live in NYC and it will be parked on the street, are this DMAX's high theft vehicles?

Second since it will be parked on the street (used maybe once during the week, and the fri/sat/sun) is this bad for the truck? (how long can diesel sit in the tank before i need to worrry)

third...

Since i dont have a driveway, i wont be able to use the block heater in the truck. is this bad, how will it effect me in the winter time? is it bad for the truck since it wont be used daily?

Not Sure About Vehicles Being High In Theft . Dont Think So . Just Make Sure You Use Your Truck A Couple Days A Week . You Only Need Your Block Heater If Its Under 20 Degrees . And Some People Dont Even Use It Then .

what happens if i dont use it? will the truck not start? (again i dont mean to ask a dumb question, but this is how one learns)

I have actually heard these trucks can be high on theft. As far as block heater, I have not used mine yet, and I had it through last winter. One thing I would suggest is starting the truck and letting it run and warm up when it is really cold out.

i can handle that no problem, but do i need a lighter oil in the winter?

I used the same oil as i do in the summer. I actually had a remote starter installed on mine, best $350 i've spent so far. My ass is lazy and didn't want to go outside to start it when she was cold, but I could still hear it start the first time, every time.

Nope. The remote starter is made by DEI (Viper).

Do this search: door handle break in

That will bring up a couple of threads on break-ins.

The oners manual recomends to use the block heater when the temp. drops below 0*F. I read here that someone would park on the extention cord so it would not get stolen, just a thought.

parking on the cord is a pretty good idea.

Take a look at this:

http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lists/stolen_cars_bystate/

I would be willing to go out on a limb here and say these trucks must be VERY easy to steal. Just scanning down the first column should say everything.

Make sure you have the best of insurance. NYC and parking on the street???? Maybe I'd think about a 1990 or so beater. Think you may have a high exposure to a very high level of risk.

Arista5 - First - I live in northern CT and have not needed a block heater yet (I don't have one). Coldest start this winter was 5 below - it didn't like it but it started fine. I doubt that you'll have any problem in NYC. Second - I would remove the DuraMax and 2500HD/3500 ensignias from the body and have an ignition defeat installed. Third - I would do the on-star and/or lojack just to be sure.

Fourth - I'd take a hard look at a TDI - now thats a city car. I go into the city all the time (on the train or in my car) - I couldn't imagine having to deal with it in my truck. IMHO

Take Howard up on his offer. He is AWSOME, and has helped many of us an awful lot.

You will have absolutely no trouble starting your truck even if you never plug it in.
LLYs have a new type of glow plug that never even stays on more than 3 seconds. The truck starts right up no trouble at all, Even well below zero.
They are amazing.

A remote starter/Alarm is a very good idea. Mine is a "Python" and has an LCD screen on the remote so you can see if it has started or not. Also if your doors are locked or not. It also starts beeping if your alarm is tripped. Never a false alarm in the 2 years I have owned a Python. This is a very nice unit.

As was said earlier the onstar is also a good idea. If your truck is ever stolen they can track it.

Run a dello 400 15/40 oil year round.

You will absolutely love this truck!!!

I don:"t mean to be rude but why ars you buying a dmax to sit on the street 6 days a week ? I would think you could find a nice Vet or something You could use more in NYC . Not not alot of use for a power plant in the city. Just asking!:badidea:

Just another northeasterner chiming in on the block heater. I have one, but didn't use it at all this winter. No problems starting up and the glow plugs never took longer than the 3 second claim to warm up, and you know what kind of winter we had up here. Wow, a d-max in NYC. Good luck with the insurance premium.......

well its all preference...

My "other" car is a 1987 Buick Grand National. I will use the truck to Haul the car to VA once in a while, or to Englishtown.

I currently have a different Full Size GMC 1500 and I feel its time to upgrade that truck to a new one. I like the Gassers but dont want one anymore, i want to go HD
