I have been looking at some new tires to fit my new h2 rims. I have been looking at the 285/70r17 and apparently they arn't a very common tire (they are more expensive than most other sizes) I have just started looking at a 305/65r17 and other than being a little wider they should leave more clearance (from what i can tell) What limitations and or mods would i be looking at for these tires. AND yess I have tried the search button but turned up little to no reall info on this particular tire size.
TIA

I'm running Nitto Terra Grapplers in 305/70/17 on my H2's. Had to trim front valance and zip-tie the inner fender liners back to stop rubbing. Can't wait for spring so i can put them back on. Truck handles so much better with the bigger tires.

I assume the 65/17 will be a shorter tire. Will that make much of a difference on the trimming? Do you have pics of where you zip tied and how much you trimmed?

Do a search on hummer in this section, you'll find your answers. p.s. You will have to crank your bars 1 1/2" or so. Good luck!

I have searched again and I really haven't found much. There are alot of Hummer rim threads however not many of them talk about using a 305 tire. I have seen some that are talking about spacers to fit these wider tires. Is that nessicary? I have also seen that someone was having problems with the "ABS" wires being pulled out. Is he talking about the speed sensor? Couldn't you just zip tie that wire to the UCA?

Spacers are only needed when you want to run the hummer center caps on the rear of the truck. They do NOT interfere with anything and may have the perfect backspacing for their width.
You can easily find TON's of 265/70/17's as they are the standard on new Fords, Dodges, and some GM's.
If you want bigger then go with the 285/70/17 or the 305/65/17. The 285's are 32.7" tall and 11.22" wide, the 305's are 32.6" tall and 12" wide. So the 285's will be much easier to fit as the edge of the tires is what rubs on the inner fender well.
Pretty much every tire company makes at least 1 AT and 1 MT in 285's, there are only two companies that I know of that make the 305/70's and they are BFG and Toyo. You should be able to get a 265 for less than 160$ a tire, 285's run from 220-280$ and I believe the 305's are around 280$.

appreciate the help its all good info. I am a broke military guy and and don't want to put a tire on that I won't be able to make fit. I would like to get 305s. I like the look of a wide agressive tire but I don't really want to put a tire on that I may later look back on and regret my decision. For those of you with 305/65s on your H2 Rims Would you go smaller next time or have you had any problems???
TIA

Sorry i don't have any pics but you will easily see where you have to trim and zip-tie. It was really no big deal. I jacked up the front and mounted the tires, then turned steering wheel back and forth to see where it rubbed and zip-tied from there. The only trimming was on the front valance piece. The only draw back to 305's is if the road is wet it will spray the side of your truck more than stock. I'm thinking about bushwacker pocket fender flares to cure the problem. A little more coverage. Otherwise the 12 inch wide tire "305" looks great on the truck. Let me know if you have any more questions.

I plan on 295/70s. There are a couple guys on here that run that size.
