I just saw D/AChris' sweet ride with 295/70/17, but don't want to cut out the whole inside of my fender to make it work, just some trimming. Wondering what offset would work, I was surprised since his was -6.6 offset, and everyone tell me with 17X8 or 9 wheel I need +12 or more?

Here is the link to Chris' ride

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just to be clear, I'm asking what offset will minimize rubbing (ie, cutting)

Thanks,

Anyone?

Just for an example:
So here are some wheels I'm looking at: Gear Alloy 715C 17x9 +/-10 offset; XD Series Spy black 17x8 or 9 and has +/-18 offset, or Ballistic Jesters chrome come in 17X9s with a +/-12 offset.

D/AChris is right. We both have the same truck. I spoke to him about his wheels and tires and went the same direction. Thanks again D/AChris! Only thing is I started with the leveling kit but ended up goin with the 4"Cognito. Plenty of pics in my garage.

I'll try to get a pic up of what I trimmed, to be honest, no one, has ever looked at where I trimmed and could tell. If you do it right and not a hack job, it looks factory. I'll try to find the camera today. Plus, I only lifted mine about 1.25" or so, I still have over an inch of clearance between bumpstop and UCA, had I gone higher with new Cognito UCA's, I could have trimmed less. But wanted mine level when towing, then I trimmed what I needed to. Chris

Here are mine with some trimming pictures with 285/65/18's. With my trim pictures. I am going to do a little clean up on it this weekend.

for minimal trimming you want to stay with a + offset 12 or 18 at least.... imo

That's exactly what/where I trimmed the metal. It's all hidden behind the plastic, so you can't tell. Mine actually might be a little less due to his wheels being more negative of an offset, by about a half inch. Chris

Thanks, 04CHEVY2500HD those pictures are very helpful, that is the right amount of trimming I was looking for!

Thanks D/ACHRIS also for your comments.

I think it is interesting that these pictures prove negative offset works very well; even though many people still state the extreme opposite of positive offset.

It also suprises me that they don't hand out past the fender very far with the negative offset, at -19mm I thought it would be very pronounced.

Since both have negative and BS of 4.5" I'll shoot for the right backspace and it should work out. Should be a good Presidents day activitiy.......Thanks
