the other day i was heading down the road, met oncoming traffic...a dodge with a trailer on it...

about 20 feet of passing each other a tire rolled off his trailer

pushed my bumper back into the front tires, shattered the grille, broke the backwall supports that hold the lights in....

$2100 of damage

....by a old pickup tire....

anyway, insurance is going to take care of it, going back with a Ranchhand front replacement, but still need a grille.

been trying to find maybe a "better" aftermarket replaement grille but searching all i can find are grille inserts....do they not make aftermarket complete grille assemblies?

I haven't really seen any or they didn't catch my eye ,but you can try stylin trucks. I think they have some. The stock bumpers are lik tin foil. My truck just slid down my buddy's driveway yesterday and into his truck(98 1500) and his plastic license plate holder that sicks out in the front on those trucks put a dent (about a 1/2" pushed in) into the rear bumper.

Bumpers aren't bumpers anymore. They are pretty shiney things not to touch.

Loose tires on a freeway have been known to kill people in their vehicles...if the tire is traveling 40 mph at you, and you're traveling 40 mph at it, the impact is 80 mph with a 30 pound object (heavier with a wheel) - that is a lot of mass impacting the front of your truck.

I was able to find a grille ($180) for my buddy's '06 at a local salvage yard off of a truck that was totaled from the rear - it might be worth checking the wrecking yards.

A couple years ago I witnessed a bobcat wheel ( complete w tire) fall off a trailer and just miss about 5 people who were waiting at a crosswalk. The thing bounced against a building like 4 feet from them at about 4' off the ground.

On 17th ave in Calgary - the "Red Mile" for those who remember. Very lucky nobody was hurt or killed.
