Installed HI and LOW HID 35W headlights this weekend. I've got a problem and a question:

The Question - Is it normal when switching from LOW to HI beam for the HI beam light to take 30 seconds to warm up? I don't like that. May change them back. Please advise.

The Problem - When driving tonight with LOW beams on I switched to the HI beams. The truck died. Had to shift into neutral and crank it while rolling. Tried it again a few miles later when no cars were around and the same thing happened. What the hell is up with that?

Nope, OEM lighting wire to the ballast and ballast to the HID light.

since i've had mt HID's (bout 3 months now) i've only used my brights maybe 4 times at the most. my lows and fogs are bright enough.... but anyways when i switch to my high beams i lose pretty much all light for about 10 seconds at the most than they are warmed up and giving out a LOT of light.....

as to the truck dying i dont know thats wierd

Where did you get them? I just installed them on my 08 and love them(no probs yet). And yes it is normal for them to take a minute to warm up.Not real good idea on highs cause of having to dim them all the time.It shortens bulb life.If you need help pm me i may be local.

Did your HID Harness not come with separate/extra connections so that you could A: connect to the chasis (GND) and another fairly heavy (10-12ga), wire directly to the battery for power.. using the OEM connectors simply for switching/turning on as opposed to providing main power as well..?

That is the way mine came... you have a short somewhere in your set up...or one set of HID's has the wrong polarity..?? Very Weird indeed.!

I'm with the other guys on not using em for Hi's...bought a set of PIAA 9005's for the highs in 4000k - nice bulbs - way brighter than OEM, and warrantied for at least a year..which beats the Silvercrap bulbs by a long shot.! HID in Lows, PIAA in Hi's + All on mod.....and the Lord said: "Let there be light, and Moses the head electrician flicked the switch...and By Christ you could see for Freakin Miles..!!"

Get a relay harness for both of em and see if that helps. Could be sucking the juice right out of your alternator to the point where your ECM isnt getting enuff volts to function correctly. Maybe Im wrong but Id get a harness and like everyone else says...get rid of highs. Ive never used my highs as my lows are much brighter than the highs now.

High beams taking 30 seconds to warm up is 100% normal, or any HID light for that matter. You gotta remember that these are not your standard halogen bulbs and do not act like them in any way.

There have been MANY documented cases of the edge causing the truck to "die" when driving keep you eye on it. It can happen again. Some have that issue and some dont

Are the PIAA lights priced as a pair? $66 per bulb seems high.

I'll check the wiring but therre were no extra wires to connect to a chasis ground. What is this harness you guys are referring to?

That's wierd. I've never had that happen before. Until I installed these lights this weekend. Twice during the weekend it happened and then again today sitting in the driveway idling.

Where can I get the type of lights used in my wife's Nissan Murano. They're super bright, don't require any warm up time, and seem to be able to switch from hi to lo easily.

if your gonna run a high that requires a warm up time i suggest the all on mod, that way your lows stay on and you get highs when they warm up. hey if one HID is good 2 has to be better.

LSU...I paid in Barrie, Ontario Canada $99.00 CAD for a pair of PIAA's so I am thinking about $65 USD for a Pair...is reasonable.??

They really are a decent bulb...warrantied for a yr (which the SilverStars junk certainly is not.!). They are awesome for Hi Beams and require no lighting/warming up period. With a good set of HID's housed in Projector headlamps for your lows...Hi quality Halogens are all one really needs in a Hi beam housing. (especially with the all on on Mod..!!)

cheers,
