Hi, I replaced my egr valve as it had 134000 miles and was almost blocked with soot. I have installed the blocker plate today to stop the new egr from getting sooted up.

i noticed power loss again so I looked under the hood and i see oily spray around where the upper intake meets the exhaust. So i take the plenum(spell check) off and inspect the gasket and sure enough there is a 1 inch chuck missing from the gasket.

Question 1 is there an alternative gasket i can use to fix this or must i lose a couple days of work and wait for the dealer to order me a new one?

Quyestion 2 Would this cause the lack of power i am seeing again?

Question 3 I must not of tightened the egr blocker plate bolts enough becuase i hear an air leak in that area. How tight did you guys get the bolts once you inserted the plate and should i eliminate the gasket just to be sure its not that?

Thanks

OK, I just put it back on without a gasket and she runs 100% power again so that what was causing my power loss. I tightned down more on the bolts at the blocker plate and it must be sitting worng becuase i got a leak there. OH well ill have to wait until tomorrow to loosen and readjust the plate as its dark now:(

I used Copper Coat sealer on mine and no leaks. Available at auto parts stores.

I put coppercoat on both sides of the plate- wait a little and then installed the plate -- You can check it for leaks with a length of hose. Just place one end close to the ear and the other around the plate area with the engine running. Kinda a Redneck stethoscope!
