I just bought a couple of these (http://www.performancetruckproducts.com/store/agora.cgi?cart_id=8573624.6271*w-6iO5&product=Chevy/GMC-Filters) filters from http://www.performancetruckproducts.com (http://www.performancetruckproducts.com/). I figured that they were allison filters because they were RED.. Guess what, they're not.

There's no lable on the filter or box. The box is white with a label peeled off. I can see some traces of the old label, looks like there is a thin orange border around the label. Hard to tell though. The label was about 1.5" high by about 3.5" wide at the top of the side of the box. Now it's just a sticky glue square.

Anybody know what kind of filter this is before I go buy some name brand ones?

Thanks,
Denis

If there was a number on them, you could go to a site like the Baldwin filter site, and use the cross reference tables.

Who knows? Why don't you call or e-mail the seller and ask them? I would be wary of any filter that costs $8 when reputable and reasonably priced places like www.adiesel.com are selling Baldwin branded filters for twice that.

Its best to contact the vendor for the facts.

If you are paying 16 dollars for a filter you are getting ripped. I sure as heck would not advertise them.

For a dollar more I could have bought genuine Allison filters from you. Live and learn. I'm going to contact the vendor.

Denis- Is there a problem with the filters? I am not sure what your concern is. We sell and use quite a few of these filters with zero problems. They are purchased through a company named Transtar. If you do not want the filters, please send them back for a full refund, sorry for the confusion.

Just purchased a filter from an Allison shop and paid $7.10. Why would you want a knock-off for more money?

I spoke with Nate yesterday. Transtar (http://www.transtarindustries.com/) appears to be a reputable company. I decided to keep the filters. It's always good to have a spare laying around. Maybe a note on the website stating that these filters are not genuine allison filters would be helpful to others since they look just like the Allison's on the website. I plan on doing business with Nate again.. maybe an exhaust http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/hihi.gif I don't think Nate is trying to pass sub-standard parts. He's got confidance in Transtar products which is why he sells their filters.

Today I changed my filter and did a side by side comparison. There is in fact a difference between the genuine Allison and the the ones I got. If you look down the threaded center of the Allison filter you will see what looks like a quarter (25 cent) with a 3/8" hole in the center. The entire quarter looking thing is on a spring. The filter I got looks like a nickle with no hole in the middle. Almost like it would plug the center of the filter housing on the transmission.. or since it's spring loaded it may move out of the way under pressure. It's definately different though. Not really sure of the implications of this design.

I'll keep this one on for a couple thousand miles then switch over to an Allison. If it was an identical design I'd leave it.
