from what i have learned the bose stereo is fully integrated so if your going to change one thing you must change everything i have not looked into adding bose components to the standard bose stereo, what i did as can be seen in my garage(pictures comingsoon) is a complete stereo overhaul replaced everything with alpine speakers amps subs tweeters headunit the whole works and in my opinion the alpine blows the bose stocker out of the water then again it cost me 2100 out the door pm me if you have any other questions

so what you're saying is it's impossible to just add another sub and an amp to run it? oh well... with the alpine set-up, do you still have control on the steering wheel?

you CAN install an aftermarket sub and amp with your bose system!!! dont' be misled. you will need a line converter to reduce the signal voltage. it's a simple adapter you tap into the signal from the speaker wire, it has rca outputs, use those as your inputs, and hook up you're amp and sub like normal.

as for steering wheel controls, most likely YES, get a pac swix adapter and you can use them, as long as your head unit is compatible (most new stuff is)

ps the line converter is about $20, the steering wheel control adapter (pac swix) is about $50, and bose sucks, :D

That will work but not the best sound quality

Someone makes and adapter that plugs into the back of the head unit to give you RCA's. Or you can go to your dealer and get the wire diagram of the stereo system and find the singal wires going to the factory amp and tap those.

not the best SQ, (not that using a stock head unit/bose is either) but if he's keeping the factory unit i assume sq is not an issue as much as just getting some bass. and that would be the cheapest, and easiest way. tapping the bose signal output vs speaker wire will require more work, and the factory adapter more money i'm sure.

if you are looking for good SQ everything stock has got to go.

 Im sure he doesnt want it to sound like shit.
If he taps the speaker wire from the door speakers there isnt going to be enough bass signal. He would have to tap it from the sub wire. That would require him to remove the center console. If he was to remove the center console he wouldnt need to spend any money and just tap the signal wire going to the the amp. he could just get one of these and save him the headache. http://www.autosoundcentral.com/product_p/aoemgm24.htm

Just an FYI the factory bose head unit sounds good with aftermarket amps and speakers, but not as good as Alpine

good info! i agree no one wants it to sound like shit, in my opinion tapping anything other than high volt 5+ pre outs from a high end source kenwood, apline, eclipse, etc. unit followed by a solid system in a deadened cab to back it up will be crap. using a factory HU even bose with a nice system won't do either, but my ear requires a lot more than others. i think he'll be happy, using any method you mentioned aswell as tapping the speaker signal. the sq difference will be minimal between them, if any, assuming his amplifier has a crossover. not having a crossover would be the only need to tap the sub, or sub signal.:D

If his amp has an input for speaker signal that would work good, I agree. but I just hate those speaker wire to RCA's converters.

damn guys...that's a wealth of info and i appreciate it. yes, i want to keep everything stock, including head unit. just want to add an amp to power a single sub for a little more depth. keeping steering wheel controls is important. with my limited amount of knowledge on this, i'll probably have someone else do the install. but i also don't want anyone to try and bs me into buying what i don't want or need. money's tight these days!!!

i would reccomend you just putting a new head unit in as well.
1. it already has the rca outputs
2. better sound quality with a higher watt output
3. it has a lead ( remote) wire loop for the singal to go to the amp
4. it looks better
5. different audio controlls for sub woofer built in to deck so u can run ur bose speakers at a low output while still getting more bass out of the sub. which will lead to longer lasting speakers.

and with a aftermarket deck, you can still run the steering wheel controls, im runnin tv's and a dvd head unit and still have my steering wheel controls, its just an adapter. 15 bucks or so.

Sorry but for a stock system Bose is pretty good. Why do you think that it is OPTIONAL equipment on Ferrari 599 GTBs. The only stock system I haven't heard yet from a late model truck is the Alpine system from the 2009 Ram.

Im getting a pac adpter from Nor-Cal. talk to the them. the one that you can plug your stringer wires into and not tap into anyother wires.

i personally would believe it's "OPTIONAL" equipment so people can opt not to have it, and install a real stereo. neither bose, nor ferrari make high end car stereos. installing a bose in a ferrari is like putting A1 on a kobe steak.

second i wouldn't go praising it because it's the best stock system in a late model truck. that's like bragging about banging your sister.

the best thing you can do to make your stereo sound good is a proper install. seal up your doors, deaden your interior, and buy quality equipment. including good wires, that's not a place to cheap out on if your looking for sound quality.

If you are satisfied with the bose, keep it, more $$ in your pocket, if you're satisfied with cheap beer, why buy $100 bottle of wine instead. bottom line, bose does suck in my opinion but so does mickey's ice, and old english.

i would second the suggestion to upgrade your head unit, it won't take a lot of money to beat the bose, stereos are cheap these days if you avoid navigation and dvd. pioneer, kenwood, and alpine will give you good sound for the $$. although the sky is the limit.
