I have a 90 2500 with a 6.2 and I need to put a fuel pump in. I have ordered a pump but I need to know if the pump is in tank or in line. I found a device on the frame rail on the drivers side that has wires running to it in the same location that the gassers have the fuel filter.Does anyone know if this is the pump or some weird heater or something.thanks in advance. the thing you found on the frame is the lift pump it is what brings the fuel up to the injector pump there is no pump in the tank of a diesel the lidt pump should run all the time you crank and when th truck is running if you put your hand on the pump you can feel it pulse

thank you camaro. Everyone that I asked said the lift pump was in the tank. when I went to take the tank off I found the pump on the frame rail(at least I thought it was the pump) I just wanted comfirmation before I continued with the tank. Now that I don't need to remove the tank the job just got easier.

The fuel/ lift pump is on left frame rail. GM changed to electric pump with 1988 body change.
