I was looking at my trailer hitch reciever today and noticed that the holes that the pin goes through have been made oblong (from use), and are more of an oval hole than a round hole. I have a NBS 2007 truck and it has that dumb 2.5" reciever that I have to use the adapter that GM supplied to make my 2" hitch work. Has anybody else had this problem? Do you think I should replace the whole reciever?

I have not noticed anything with mines....YET, but only time will tell, right now I'm have an issue with my lock, its tooo small to go all the way through, so all I have is that dump key (that anybody can steal) so hold

the holes are egging because of slop. dump that 2.5x2 adaptor and by a 2.5 insert with the correct drop and put your ball on the new hitch. make sure you get a new pin/cleaves that snugly fits thru the hitch holes. the 2.5 insets are not that much more than the older 2" ones. the 2.5 is alot stronger than the 2" and a brand new 2.5 will cost big time. check your brake setting also. if the trailer brakes are pulling too much it loads the hitch and will not help with the egging. as the truck is trying to pull forward and the trailer is trying to pull backwards

I got pissed off and welded that stupid insert on my hitch. I got tired of worrying about losing it all the time. Probably not the smartest thing I ever did but now I dont have to chase it around in my bed.

I welded plates on the sides of my "Stinger" where it slides into the receiver--that helped support the weight of the trailer when stopping and no more slop. It also helps when sliding the stinger into the receiver, because it stops where the pin slides in easy. If it does not move, it will not make the holes elongated. :D

The "bent" style hitch pins are usually the problem with oblong holes.

The best fix to elongated holes is drill it out and put bushings in or upgrate to a better hitch.

Thanks guys, I think that I might just get a whole new reciever. I have over $600.00 in 2" hitches, and don't want to have to buy new ones.
