: Loosing prime while driving

I drove to work yesterday and as I was pulling into parking lot truck quit on me. Primed it and it started back. It had about a quarter tank of fuel in it, so not empty. Going home and about a 1/4 mile from office truck shut off going down road, so I primed it and it started again. Finally got to a store to put fuel in it and has run fine since after I primed it again. I am going to replace fuel filter this weekend. Any ideas on what may have caused it to stall?

I've seen some problems with the primer pump buttons sucking air and naturally if the plastic plug isn't sealing it will suck air there too.

Similar problems too and couldn't trace it down. Added a lift pump and never looked back.

Same issue, but it was caused by a defective fuel hose on the nictane filter that dry rotted and was sucking air. Changed the hose and added a lift single pump so vacuum won't be an issue.

Have your noticed any leaks with the pump? There has got to be a hole somewhere. I'm about to go this route, instead of replacing the filter adaptor and all the lines, which is where I"m at in finding my mysterious overnight prime lose.

I filled it up with fuel and changed the fuel filter and have not had any problems since. I have been looking for leaks after it has been parked for a while but have not found any. I looked at the primer button and that doesn't seem to be sucking any air. Going to have some service done and have them look at the lines while it is being serviced.

When are you taking it in? Keep an eye on the correlation between fuel level and loss of prime if it's going to be driven for a bit before it goes to the dealer. I would also run it down to around a 1/4-1/2 tank so they can possibly repeat the issue.

I took mine in and at the time it had 3/4 of a tank. They couldn't get it to do it:rolleyes:

The next time it does it, FILL the tank and see how much it will take. I'd bet it will take within a gallon or two of total capacity (34 gal for a 3500). Fuel gauges are known to show up to 1/4 tank when near empty. Check out the various threads for hours of pleasurable reading.

Makes sense. I will make sure it has between 1/4 and 1/2 tank when I take it in.

I called the service manager today and he is going to get back to me, probably next week.
