no ebay starter will be going on my truck...however...the unit i have removed is %^&*ed..while taking it off the solenoid S terminal snapped...oh well i thought...new solenoid isn't too expensive. got it out starter peeling it apart, a hold down on the solenoid snapped...^%$# i'll have to drill that out...keep going this time with a micro butane torch and a small hammer to gently heat and tap the bolts to loosen them, worked like a charm no more broken bolts...got it all apart took a look at the armature...pretty decent shape...

looked at the gears, no teeth missing...good...commutator was all burnt up...i said ok the dremel will take care of that, polished it up, got rid of the burn marks, there was a bit of scoring but nothing major.

went to inspect the brushes...AHHA...theres the problem...both positive brush connectors had MELTED off there hold downs...damnit...so a new starter will be going and the old will be going to centennial college as a demonstration unit...

thanx for the help guys...too bad it didn't work out :(

To demonstrate what? "Now... This is what happins when you sit and let your starter crank for a minute trying to start your diesel with fubar glow plugs" ? :p:

no smartass to demonstrate what happens during a mechanical brush failure...

the wires were all fine...and those are what melt during an overheat situation

if that damn screw hadn't let the one positive brush come loose, it probbaly would have been fine...
