I know there's probably a million threads about this. I had my EGT and Boost guages installed by a supposedly reputable lift/performance shop. After a few months of towing(with guages and Hypertech on 2), I noticed that my EGT's never got above 1100 deg. This worried me, because my brother in law has an LB7 with the edge on 0 and was hitting 1200 -1300 deg.

I investigated further and found that the lift shop installed the EGT probe about a foot down the downtube from the junction were it connects to the turbo. Basically the probe is on the bottom of my truck. Will this pose a problem towing? I spoke with the shop and they said that it's a more accurate reading, because if its on the manifod then it only reads one side of the motor.

Should I have it moved to the manifold?

If this is FUBAR, do you think my boost probe is also in the wrong place?

It should be in the manifold.

1. By the time the gauge reads that, its going to read lower EGT than whats going through the turbo

2. You want to know what the EGT is going to the turbo so you dont damage it or something else. Ideal would be a probe for every port, but with running one, put it in the manifold.

Thanks thats what I thought. What do you think of the boost probe location?

I dont think those are the correct locations. As Cobra stated you want the most accurate temp read out. Here a good site from a fellow member.

I had the fear of a probe letting go and taking out a turbo. With that being said, I have both of my EGT probes post turbo, just not that far away. I have reduced my acceptable high limit by 300 degrees to compensate for the probe position.

The boost tap location is not optimal, but reasonably ok.
I would recommend buying a new pyro probe and tapping into the pass side manifold... the only way to know what your EGT's are

I Have 2 Egt Probes One In The Manifold And One Post Turbo. At Idle There's Almost No Differance, But At Freeway Speeds About 300 Deg Differance, And When Giving Her, A Big Big Differance. Btw The Manifold Is Always The Hotter Reading.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to move my EGT probe to the manifold. If the boost probe isn't in the optimal spot, where is?
