I've noticed lately that my front differential (I think that's the cause) is getting noisy. It sounds like the front wheels are engaged...(of course they're not engaged I'm just trying to explain the sound). It never used sound like this. Is this common or a sign of a problem? Thanks for the help.

Sounds like some carrier and/or pinion bearings on the way out... not uncommon

Would that be covered under the warranty?

It would be covered under your 3-36 warranty, not the 5-100k engine warrranty.

Okay so warranty isn't gonna work...I got 65k miles. Dealer quoted me $600+tax. They said the front bearings are a part of the hub so the whole hub has to be replaced. How hard is it to replace the hub? I might try it on my own. If it's not my bassboat it's the truck!

If it's not my bassboat it's the truck! If the noise is coming from your differential carrier/pinion bearings then replacing the hubs isn't going to fix it. To check the hubs raise the front wheels off the ground and try to rock the tire back and forth, also spin them and feel for roughness. If they are ok then drain the oil from the front diff and look for excessive metal and black fluid. The front diff will need to be rebuilt if you find evidence of failure.

I took it to the dealer and to NTB. Both said the hub is the cause of the noise and that it needed to be replaced. The noise is coming from the front left so I hope they're right.

I jacked mine up in January just for kicks and found my left front hub to be bad. Covered under GMPP. I was kind of upset they didn't r & r both sides but thats warranty work for you. 60K miles.

Is replacing the hub something an average joe can do or are there some "tricks of the trade" that I'll not know about? I don't wanna mess anything up. Got a mechanic who'll do it for me if I want. Wouldn't mind learning how to do it myself though. What do y'all think?

It is really easy. Remove the brake caliper-2 bolts. Remove rotor. 3 bolts on the back of hub hold it on, one nut in the center holds the axle into it. Unhook the abs wire. Tap it on the back with a hammer until it pops off. You might need to use a bar to pry it off if it's pretty rusted.
