Got my '05 2500HD w/ DMAX and Allison last week. It is sitting with 1100 miles on it now. I ordered the Edge Juice/Attitude combo today, now I am wondering if there is anything I should do to support these mods or if just adding the box alone will be safe and effective. I have been reviewing the forums about mods posted and for an ex street racer and current rock crawler, even I am slightly confused. There is so much info on this board it is amazing! My background is in high horsepower gassers. I just don't want to damage my engine or tranny prematurely. I am not into drag racing my truck or smoking out the motorcycle beside me, but I will be towing about 15K on occasion and would like to have the power available if I get the urge. Any good suggestions?

Thanks,
BJ

Good advice would be send back the Edge unit and keep it stock. You said you'll be pulling but not interested in smoking so leave it stock. That is "good" advice, but a lot of people like to fix em up. I guess it just depends on your definition of good. I interpret it that you want long term reliability. Just:) my opinion, "good" luck with the new truck!!

check out atsdiesel.com. I just got off the phone with a local diesel garage that does alot of performance upgrades and he uses ats products. I have an 05' 3500 lly and am thinking about upgrading to edge also. He told me if you were going to dog it and run it on 100 or more hp, may want to consider co-pilot transmission upgrade.:grd:

I totally agree with ScottC above. Send the performance stuff back, leave her stock and enjoy the reliability. These things a good performing light trucks, that's all.

Nah!

I haven't pulled anything heavy with my '05 3500 LLY (w/ Edge/attitude) yet, but I will. My '02 3500 pulled a 13-14K gooseneck car hauler amazingly well with my juice on #3. Easily set the cruise at 80.

How long do you plan on having it? If your like me after 100,000 its time for a new style. The dura can last long after that with regular service intervals. You can burn up your tranny in 80+ HP settings with a heavy foot and you will ware out the engine before 300,000 miles (maybe) running performance chips. But, I'll be lucky to get it broke in good before I trade for another one so..............Mod the hell out of it and enjoy it!:ro)

How you take care of your truck is more important than keeping the thing stock in terms of longevity. There are people around this board in excess of 500hp that have 100,000 plus miles on the ticker without skipping a beat. Tomac comes to mind. Drag racing, truck pulling and TOWING......100,000 MILES ON THE TICKER AND HE JUST ADDED more POWER ( check out duramaxracing.com)!! So....when people start talking crazy about how adding 60-80 hp to aid in towing will hurt you in the long term I just have to laugh. Its the same people everytime too. If you have no experience with performance mods then there is no need to chime in. Its obvious that these people haven't done any research what so ever. Bottomline.....add your 70-80 hp for towing (lvl 3 on your edge....by the way...sounds like the new version has the bugs worked out) and enjoy. Over that amount of hp a upgraded tranny is a must. Make sure you have at least a pyrometer (included with your edge) and I would look at a 4in. exhaust for your needs (mbrp has a good system). If you have any further questions...pm me and I will help you out as best I can. There is lotsa great info here....use it to your advantage and try to sort out the Bull...if ya now what I mean!!

I know what you mean. I am a big Jeep/Rock Crawler buff and the boards on that side of the world are no differant, except over there I know what I am talking about.

I will surprised if this truck sees 150K in my ownership. I had my last one for 123K and the one before it for 60K. Around 100K I start getting the bug for a new truck pretty bad, so I see this one being no differant. Don't get me wrong, I love horsepower and the having it on tap is definately good, but you will not find me driving my truck down a drag strip any time soon! I do plan on adding 4" exhaust soon, but I really don't want to get into the tranny.
