: Voiding GMC New Truck Warrantee
new2this 04-07-2005, 01:47 PM Censored, just received news that my truck got stuck on a train car somewhere and it won't be delivered next Tuesday. Maybe another two weeks. -:t
Buying an extended warrantee which I don't want to void with addition of accessories. Found that exhaust brakes will do this. Maybe even the BrakeSmart controller also as it taps into the brake line, rep at BrakeSmart was not sure. I was wondering about adding a chip like the Edge/Juice which has received good reviews on this site. Also wonder about guages like the ETG (?) and going to a 4" exhaust system.
I'm contacting the GMC dealer, but as it is often suggested not to trust them., I'd like other input if possible.
DavesDmax 04-07-2005, 03:04 PM Just my opinion, but, adding just gauges check with your dealer first but probably OK. Mine did.
Adding chip, chances are that GM will not want to cover any engine related issues due to accelerated wear of running the engine harder. Kind of make sense.
I've heard that with the new VGT on the LLY that adding a Exhaust brake is not good, Check with your dealer.
Don't know about the exhaust, I think as long as you don't remove the Cat, I wouldn't think they would care.
You may not want to trust your dealer, but then again, you are going to potentially asking them to foot the bill, or support your position, if something breaks. That's why you've got to pick a dealer you feel comfortable with get their buy-in up front.
It was a lot easier in the old days when warranties lasted about 36 months. Now with long-term warranties, you're going to see a lot more manufacturer interest in what is put on vehicles.
The brakesmart would have to be OK'ed by dealer as if anything would happen to your braking system, everybody would be pointing fingers at somebody else. However, I just read today that the Tow Command system that Ford uses, works like the BrakeSmart system. I don't know for sure but the Tow Command controller may be from BrakeSmart.
MiDmax 04-07-2005, 03:08 PM  Pardon my Ignorance, but what is VGT..... and while we're at it PYO
Thanks......
kbstinky 04-07-2005, 03:15 PM I had my "extended warranty" stand up and cover my ally when it blew at 36,6000, and gm wouldn't.
Cost to fix the ally was 3500, I only paid 600 for the ext warr.
I think I got my monies worth.
DavesDmax 04-07-2005, 03:48 PM VGT stands for Variable Geometry Turbocharger
PYO is the GM option designator for the factory forged Polished Aluminum Wheels.
I'm sure somewhere in the GM supply system, their nomenclature makes sense.
Gray Max 04-07-2005, 05:37 PM I took a truck in without a Cat and they covered it, but said they wouldn't work on it again without the cat. If you run a chip of some sort just remove it before service. If they don't see it they can't refuse warranty. The Cat thing sucks as it is a PITA to get off and on. Just tell them she's bone stock;)
crewcab03 04-07-2005, 07:46 PM my local dealer was cool about it, said the exhaust was fine along with intake, as for a programer, he told me to just remove it from the truck before I brought it in, if it was towed in call and let him know and he would "remove it for me" before the tecs or warrenty work was issued.
MiDmax 04-08-2005, 07:54 AM A Big Thanks to DavesDmax.:exactly: .....I appreciate your help...;)

I asked dealer to look into the BrakeSmart acceptability. I also saw in the Brakesmart install PDF that the controller accommodates an Exhaust Gas Temperature and Boost module option for diesel engines. However, I could not find the option listed for sale on their website. (I want this info, correct? although darned if I really know what I want it for: will continue reading more threads).
Dealer did say I could enlarge the exhaust system w/o voiding warrantee. Again don't know why do I want to do this.
Will also add the Edge/Juice on the qt. Know it equates to more power and Tim Taylor, my hero, always preaches MORE POWER!
Maybe I'll understand this stuff yet! With all your great help of course. Funny, I have no problems opening computers and figuring out software but just the thought of opening the hood makes my knuckles bleed. Wish I had taken auto tech rather than shop in highschool.

I do like these faces, although I bet you old timers are pretty tired of seeing them.
crewcab03 04-08-2005, 06:03 PM the exhaust will help lower the egt's and give a couple more horses, but biggest is the egts when towing and running around.
KPSmithSr 04-08-2005, 09:03 PM My new 3500 Duelly D/A Crew 4WD LB must be lost with yours, dealer gave me a printout that said it was shipped on 3/28/05 and it only has to go to St. Louis. I could have gone and gotten it by now! I drive by the dealer everyday going into work, stop in if a see a delivery being made. Bet they will be happy when it comes in and they don't see me so much.
