Just purchased a 2004 Silverado 2500HD, CC, LT, D/A with 6900 miles. I've been reading some of the posts on this engine (LB7), and it sounds like I made a good choice in both trucks and engines. I'm hoping for many miles of carefree travel with it. I'm pulling a 25' FW, so I needed to upgrade from my 2001 Chevy. Is there anything a newbie to diesels should know about these engines to make sure I don't damage it? Love the forum.

First, at 6900 miles I would change all filters and fluids to include oil, fuel, the trans spin-on filter, front (if 4x4) and rear diff. Next, guages. I would look into a pyrometer and boost guage. These are usually mounted on the "A" pillar and are used to monitor Exhaust Gas Temp (EGT) and of course the amount of boost the turbo is making. Both of these are very important when towing and could prevent you from damaging your engine, especially if you start modifying the performance of the truck. Then I would start kickin' around the idea of a secondary fuel filtering system to prevent premature injector failure....cheap insurance. Other than that let your wallet do the talking.....

Oh and by the way....Welcome.

Welcome to The diesel Place. You made a good choice in your truck (My opinion) . If you aren't sure of the trucks history, see if you can't get a dealer to pull its hiustory by VIN. There are some guys on this forum that will do it for you to. Just don't give your VIN on here, use email. My first add on would be a NICKTANE fuel filter installed like he recommends.
