When I hit 50,000 I want to change most of the oil in the motor. Since the oil pan has the humo in the middle there is always ome laying in the front. I also have a small leak in the pan gasket. My only questions is, is the only thing I have to do is remove the cross member underneath it? Thanks.

IIRC that is all you have to take off. The oil pan doesn't use a gasket. I used the grey high temp silicone or ask the dealer what they use.

For the oil pan without a gasket, you might consider using a sealer called Right Stuff. It comes in either an aerosol can that looks like a pressurized whipping cream dispenser or in a small caulking style tube that fits in a standard caulking gun. Right Stuff doesn't seem to show up in an oil analysis like some silicone sealers do, even from the factory. This is the best gasket maker I have ever found and I have used it for oil, gas, diesel, gear lube and antifreeze gaskets. I hope this helps.

Lynn, right stuff is great sealant...however, the grey sealer gm uses on the duramax is unbelieveable.....ask patrick or dmaxallitech how much fun it is to get the valve covers off with that stuff on them
