I am buying a new regular cab 2008 c-5500 with an 8.1 and the Allison 2350 six speed with 4.63 rear end. The truck is speced with 26000 gvw also so there is a 65 mph governor on the motor. It will used as a box truck and mostly driven on the interstate. Can anyone point me in a direction to get this removed. I know there are probably some legal reasons why the dealerships would be hesitant so if there is a way around going to them I'd appreciate some suggestions.;)

My 1998 Chevy P12 HD Motorhome Chassis is also a Class 6. 26,000# CGVWR truck, like yours. I think you'll find more than one governed speed/RPMs on the truck, most of which are programmed in. And any programming/PCM
"tune" voids the warranty. My P12 has a maximum road speed, based on the OE speed rating of the original tires.
In my case, that speed is 78 MPH. I feel no need to go any faster, towing heavy and loaded down. The top road speed is the least of your worries. Spark retard and high coolant heat caused S.R. are the real power killers.

I should have been more specific. The truck comes with option "KYR 65 MPH speed governor" I am not interested in removing the governor completely but changing to option "KYW 75 MPH speed governor.

I would think that the Stealership *should* change that for you. It is a RPO that you do not want...

Yeah they were cool with changing it. I did, however, have to buy a program from GM to get it done. Since it's new and coming from a dealer they needed to change it in the option codes in case it gets sold down the line
