okay, heres the problem, every so often my 2005 dmax seems to "pop back"....not like a car backfire, just a little burp with what seems a skip kinda like a mis fire. has anyone else seen anything like this? i have had this truck since like late 2005, im second owner and its only done this like maybe 12 times. truck has only 38K miles on it and i cant remember if this problem arose after the few minor boltons...im sure it did it b4 the k&n cold air kit was installed. only mods ive done are 4inch turbo back no cats or muffler, diablo predator tuner set on 65 hp and k&n cold air.
any help would be apreciated. thanks

any help would be apreciated. thanksThe problem is with the factory program in your ECU. To solve the problem you can do a couple things. One is have the deal reflash your truck with there updated program, Tell him what your truck is doing, any good d-max dealer will know just what to do. The other choice is to block the EGR and finger stick or get a tuner that will shut off the codes if you dont have an fe9 build code.

What is happening is that the EGR is opening and closing at the wrong time causing that backfire sound in the intake.

Mine did this a little too. I installed a blocker plate and haven't heard it since.

thanks, ill call them tomorrow. is this something that i will have to pay for is it some kinda thing that might be covered under warranty? also do you think i will get shit from them for the above mentioned mods? im sure they are looking for a reason to void warranty.....also whats a fe9 build? thanks for the help again

Not to hijack the thread but I have a question that kind of goes along with the questions asked. I noticed after installing my exhaust, that when the truck is cold and I accellerate and let off, not even hard accelleration and let off instantly but just normal driving, I hear something like a dog barking or a wooden chair scooting across the floor. Thats the best way I can describe it. Any ideas? I dont think it is turbo surge.

Also the symptoms go away after the engine is warm.

that bark is the vanes closing back up when you let off. its normal for engine warm up. I wish mine would always do it, its the coolest sound this thing ever makes.

also will the reflash solve all this or will i still need to block the egr? as far as i know it hasnt thrown any codes....at least no check engine lights are on yet.

I would go in with as few mods as posible and hope you have a good dealer. There was three engine build codes in 05, If you have fe9 on your build sheet tells us that if you block the EGR the CEL light should not come on. The other build codes will have the CEL light come on if you block the EGR without something to stop the EGR from tripping the CEL light.
