: Opinions please...
HighSierra86 02-02-2009, 11:34 AM So I am in need of quite a few new parts and maybe some upgrades. I have dealt with heath and was very impressed with his help and products, but his prices are a bit high compared to others. I was wondering how many of you have bought products from kennedy and what you thought. I am in the market for glow plugs, PMD remote cooler, and possibly stock injectors and cooling mods. I have searched but havent found much info on kennedy's products on this site. Thanks in advance!
chris4521 02-02-2009, 11:53 AM Dont know where to find the other stuff, but for PMD cooler i built my own.
bought a dtech PMD off ebay (cheapest price, with free 6' extension) then took a massive computer heatsink, drilled it, mounted the pmd, sealed it, then mounted it on the truck. cost me like 3 something all said and done. if your mounting location is a good one (ie. bumper) and you have a large enough heatsink - aluminum is your best bet - you shouldnt have any problems. might not have a 7 year warranty, but it also doesnt cost 7 bills. who knows, it may even last as long
DieselCash 02-02-2009, 11:58 AM Make a list on what you want to purchase. Maybe I can assist you on were to purchase different things.
I will agree, Heath is expensive but, you get quality with the price and someone that will actually back his warranty.

Im not gonna argue with anyone on that fact, heath is deffinetly top on my list for quality and service.
I guess the purpose of this post was to get opinions on kennedy's products by people who have bought them. He is a reputable source, and his prices are very reasonable. There just seems to be a lack of info on customer reviews.
My biggest purchases will probably be a PMD cooler for the front bumper and a set of stock injectors.
94K30 02-02-2009, 01:12 PM I have bought from Kennedy and was happy with everything I got from him.....
mattthebrat 02-02-2009, 01:25 PM Not much experience with Kennedy myself, but I have several friends who have bought stuff from him and been very happy, especially with their fast glow plugs, great for cold old Wisconsin.
mattthebrat 02-02-2009, 01:27 PM Oh just to elaborate, between my friend and his family, they have 4 GM diesels, and they all have Kennedy's fast heat GP's and the '97 has Kennedy's PMD and heatsink.

I have never herd of anybody complaining about Kennedy. I was going to purchase the OPS Relay from him but, after lots of reading and research I will just build one myself.
One thing I do like about Kennedy is when you call to ask a question, he answers the phone. Call him for yourself, ask all the questions you want. You will see that he is a down to earth business owner, that will take time for every customer he can.
IamDave0887 02-02-2009, 03:15 PM I'm a Heath guy personally. Heath stands behind his products and also works with the customer. He's done little things like upped shipping from basic to 2-3 day(for no extra cost), thrown in things(like my Snap-on injector socket that came with the injectors), and even given me a free upgrade to a GL4(when i bought the HP4 i was given no core charge back as i did not have a working ECM but the free upgrade more than made up for it). Try getting any other vendor to do those things. Heath's the best in the business for a reason.
Nothing wrong with Kennedy Diesel at all, I've just never bought from him.
If your in Canada stay away from SSDiesel as they only ship via UPS, and no ones figured out how that sneaky "fee" always makes its way to your door via the UPS guy with his hand out.
rigwatcher 02-02-2009, 03:47 PM yeah ss diesel sells overpriced junk. Take a look at his wastegate controller, a spring in a tin can with a 200 core charge.
HighSierra86 02-02-2009, 04:19 PM Thanks for the replies guys, I havent heard anything bad about him or his products, but i was just curious to see who was using his parts. Heath is great, but when I am trying to keep the fleet going for a reasonable price, he is a little pricey. My list of parts keeps getting bigger and my wallet smaller

For the PMD I would go no other than Heath. (and thats what I have as my THIRD and FINAL PMD.
I have guages from Kennedy, and T-stats.
ANswers his phone, nice to talk to. Actually talked me out of buying a crossover pipe.. LOL, I wish he hadn't, I had money then (summer).

I hate to be a killjoy here, but why?
Kennedy's FSD Heatsink is $535. 1-yr warranty
Heath's is $549. 7-year warranty.
$14 difference. $2 per year.
It ain't rocket science, folks.
i have gotten a lot of education from Bill heath, always happy to share. i look at the $550 PMD as less grief.
i also thought his prices were a bit high at first, but, realize what i get for the money.
he has also saved me money by helping me make better decisions and providing the best parts.
my list of power and cooling upgrades are all from his site. i know they stand behind their products and have the experience in the 6.5l

haha i noticed that myself and was going to purchase the FSD heatsink from heath. But on the otherhand, Heath wanted $549 for stock injectors plus a $40 install kit, while kennedy is only getting $380 plus a $25 kit. Now what is the difference there??

Other than the fact that Kennedy is selling "either new Delphi or reman with new nozzles" and Heath is selling new stanadynes, I dunno.
At least I know both those brands - Walt at SSDiesel is selling 'medallion' - whatever those are.
I never said Bill had the best prices on everything; same with John. Like everything else, purchasing parts is usually a matter of shopping around, watching for name and quality, balancing that against warranty and trust factors, and making decisions based on all that.
If there was one dealer that had the best, cheapest, fastest, most trustworthy service and parts with the longest warranty, I imagine all the other guys wouldn't be in business anymore.
But there isn't, so as they say, 'Caveat Emptor'
