So I just ordered a new double din in-dash dvd/cd/xm/nav/etc...

And When looking for a wiring harness I was told that I have to buy a special harness to work with the Bose and Onstar equipment. Is this true? I hear they are about $150-200... I really dont care about the onstar as I wont use it, but would like to keep my bose system working properly.

Is there a way I can keep my factory bose system working with a normal wire harness, or do I really have to get this expensive one?

Thanks in advance for the help...

No idea what exactly your looking at. What brand and what thaey offer for connection. Point us to info on new radio you want and the cable they say should be needed.

They just call it a onstar harness but it does everything. I got mine from PAC for my Kenwood dnx5120 i put in. I dont have the bose, but you have to specify if you have that when you order. They are two different units. Also keeps your chimes active for any alerts on the dash or doors open/etc. Normally they are around 175 but i got mine brand new on ebay for around $70 from a stereo shop that was a power seller with good feedback

I am in the process of getting a new head unit and will be running amps. The Metra adapater xxxx-lan-01, will not let you use OnStar if you have amps. Metra doesn't even make an adapter that will work if you are planning on using amps.

I did find from PAC (http://www.pac-audio.com/products/productsCatagory.asp?mmSearch=OnStar%20Interface#o s-3bose) that is suppose to work with bose, but since I don't have Bose I haven't researched it much.

Also, the have a unit for non-onstar and it supposedly will work with the steering wheel controls, all one unit, and the price as around $145 give or take.

BTW, if you try to buy the harness from a stereo shop, they will try to sell it you at about $300. Even Circuit City with their 40% off car eletronics is still selling the Metra adapter for $140, Crutchfield is about $135 and if you buy the stereo through them, they'll let you have it for half that.

update:

Ended up having to get the harness for the bose/amplified and onstar. The turn signal chime sounds retarded but I finally got used to it. The kit was very easy to install and cost about $170. I can get the part # if anyone needs it.
