: DIC.. Not on Dash it is on the right side tied to the trip button
DuraLee 02-01-2009, 09:52 PM My DIC is NOT on my Dash it is tied to the trip button on the right side of my instrument cluster... I am bummed about this:( (but I got 1 heck of a deal)
What type of information am I going to have?
Just as a F.Y.I. I have bought the Scan Gauge II but I have not totally programed it yet..
Also (Now that I have your attention) what Fuel Filter should I buy? And do I have to buy a special tool to remove it? This is my first Diesel and I am learning as I go......
Jaybeecon 02-01-2009, 11:17 PM Scroll through the top two buttons on the DIC and you'll see what info you get. Things like ODO reading, trip, avg MPG, trans temp on the top button and tire pressure, oil life, filter life and other settings on the second.
No special tools needed for the fuel filter - it's an easy 15 minute change if you go in through the wheel well liner on the passenger side. Lots of threads about it here if you search.
Congrats on the new truck and the great deal!
Tanc Crusher 02-01-2009, 11:19 PM Dic is not on the steering wheel on LMMs. Sounds like it is not the LTZ model you have but you can add DIC control to other version NBS. Check this link out. Direct link does not work because of link structure when posting but look up your truck and 2009 would work on 2008 model. Look under electonics when you get to Silverado and check out Driver Information center.

Miniracer 02-01-2009, 11:27 PM The DIC is not on the wheel, it is on the l/h dash panel.
Get the WIF wrench for the fuel filter, otherwise you will damage the wif sensor (I bought a lisle wif wrench after the first FF change with a pair of water pump pliers on the sensor) and just a large strap wrench for the filter.
I would buy an AC Delco filter.
Cheers!

Jaybee... I don't have the DIC on the Dash (I had a 2008 1500 that did) I guess I miss lead you I meant dash Not Steering Wheel..
Tanc I went to that web site and it says I can add the DIC to my truck for $100.00 but I have a feeling that is just for the panel. I would be willing to bet that my truck does not have the capalities of providing all of the information like mileage, and trip info, etc.
Also Thanks I guess I will head off to Napa and see if I can find that tool to remove the senser off the fuel fitlter....
Tanc Crusher 02-02-2009, 08:59 AM Yes the wiring is right behind there for plugging it in. That is what I have read from the ones that have put it in. There are post on it here so use the search tool to locate some and check them out.

step child 02-02-2009, 01:29 PM My truck didn't come with the DIC features my 04' had, the 08' just had trip, mileage, oil, and fuel filter. I ordered the dash panel for the DIC from the dealer so now I can see all but insant fuel mileage ( that is a bummer what I wanted was the insant mileage ). The pannel replaces the one by the drivers left dash vent.

The DIC on the NBS does not have the instantaneous mileage feature of the previous models.

Mine does.

DuraLee 02-02-2009, 05:27 PM Update... I found the DEAD END plugged into the vent on the left hand side of the steering wheel. I called and ordered the DIC panel and it should be here by the end of the week..... Thanks ya'll

Mine does.
Are you sure it's instantaneous? Mine has average fuel economy but not instantaneous.

Both of mine do.

My tuck is the LT, I think to get the instantaneous read out your truck needs to be a LTZ.

Ahh... That would explain it. Mines only(?) the LT1.
BeringCDMax 02-03-2009, 09:10 AM This is a super easy install, I added it to mine. I also do not have the instant mileage, only average (LT). I am a little late on this, but you can get this part at gmpartsdirect.com for I think $72.
Oregonnovaguy 02-03-2009, 06:29 PM I have a 2007.5 LTZ with no instantaneous mileage on the DIC. I just assumed they were all the same; obviously not.
Lofti7 02-03-2009, 07:32 PM ltz with no instant mileage just average:(
sickofford77 02-03-2009, 11:44 PM 08 ltz no instant either
Diesel Dragon 02-04-2009, 12:08 AM Thats weird that some do and some don't
My LT dosen't have instant either.
DuraLee 02-04-2009, 08:31 AM I guess I don't understand instant mileage? I have had several GM's (a 2003 Trailblazer and a 2006 HHR) and to get instant mileage I always just reset the average and got instant mileage?... Knowing me I was not doing something right....
Tanc Crusher 02-04-2009, 05:25 PM Instant is reading as your driving so as you come to a stop it will read 0 and coasting can get pretty high. What is on the Duramax since the LBZ is average mileage. Not sure if they had some LLY with it or not. LB7 does have instant. LBZ and LMM just have Average meaning it reads the average over time. One can use the dashboard option from EFILive and get an Instant mileage on LBZ. Someone posted this awhile back. I was thinking the calculation for LMM differed.

armylifer 02-05-2009, 03:39 PM The question was asked in the original post about which fuel filter to use. I bought several from fleetfilter.com. They sell the NAPA Gold Filter # 3910 for a reasonable price. According to my maintenance records, I paid $23.19 per filter a year and a half ago. I bought a case of them then so I do not know what their current price is but I would bet that it beats anyone elses price by half.
Diesel Dragon 02-05-2009, 08:12 PM Unless things have changed recently Racor makes all the fuel filters for our trucks and then they are rebadged under diffrent names.
.
leftyrb 02-06-2009, 01:12 AM Our truck is an LT without the DIC on the dash, but rather than buying the dash mount, we got the Scanguage. Really handy for instant fuel economy, fuel economy for the day, and a multitude of other features
DuraLee 02-06-2009, 07:37 AM I Had a Scanguage and didn't really care for it.
Thanks for the tip about fleetfilters I will check them out.
DuraLee 02-07-2009, 08:29 AM Oh my..... You talk about a easy fix....... I ordered my DIC dash replacement part on Tuesday and it arrived on Friday I plugged it in and Presto. I now have full DIC range..... Thanks so much and this will be so helpful to me being I a a Virgin at Diesels.....
Tanc Crusher 02-07-2009, 12:28 PM Glad you have a fully functioning DIC. No idea why GM would not install a cheap item at the factory.

step child 02-07-2009, 06:09 PM Not sure if this is getting off the topic or not but can you get the DIC to read instant fuel mileage on a LT truck. I bought the dash buttons, but I miss the instant mileage.

That is one reason I went with the ScanGauge as it does show instant mileage

The owner's manual for the 2008 Silverado indicates that the instant fuel mileage feature is only available on vehicles with the Active Fuel Management system.
