I just filled up today 2.75 a gallon for diesel fuel -:t In So Cal. This is the same price a premium 91 octane. Hard to figure why diesel is so high..

I just paid $2.64 in HB. It went up over .10 in the last two days Censored

It does look like it is coming down relative to the cost of gas, closer to 87-89 range instead of the 89-91 range.

My brother works for BP refinery and told me the reason for the hike in price for diesel. His refinerey is blending an Ultra low sulfer for regs. in 07', this cost more to blend and has to cover the cost of new equip. The competing refineries are not yet making ULS diesel but have also upped the cost to pay for new equip. to make the ULS.

Thought that I would get bashed for that $61 fill.

$61 or $350, it's just starting to hurt when only a year ago it was $30 or $35 for a fillup for me. When I was 16yr old, I could drive for almost 2 weeks for only $10. Ah....the memories. Can't wait till $3.009+ a gallon.

When I'm on the road I burn anywhere from 130 to 180+ dollars a day for fuel:eek: . Inflation is going to start increasing with this out of site fuel. I won't hook the trailer up for less than 1.40 a mile and most of the time we are averaging 1.60 to 1.80. Big trucks are around 2.10 to 2.50 and some are getting 3.00 a mile. If fuel hits 3.00 dollars this summer the country just may shut down.

Diesel in Southern Vermont is running from 2.389 to about 2.459

I was in Worcester County Massachusetts yesterday and saw diesel at a Hess station for $2.259

In southern VT, we basically have only 5 fuel brands available...Citgo, Mobil, Sunoco, Gulf, and Shell. In Rutland VT, there is one "Irving" station (a Canadian company) but it is no cheaper.

I was told recently at a station in Portland OR that in the NW "all" of our diesel comes from Alaska and has no reflection on OPEC. But he said that because Canada had such a cold winter and oil is their primary heat source, we were diverting our oil from the pipe line to Canada. We were using the fuel stored in the tanks and as levels droped prices went up. The good new is the pipeline just recently went back to filling our tanks. Cross your fingers prices may start to come down some, just in time for summer increases.

Well, to tell the truth, it's uncle sam who is the primary cause of the higher cost of diesel fuel right now. I am sure you are all aware that virtually all military equipment runs on diesel and so.....wartime effort seem to be sucking the reserves dry you see.

Of course the Gov't uses BioBeisel b-20 or better, however, as you already know, BioDiesel B20 is a mixture of 20% soy-based diesel and 80% petroleum diesel, so the end result may not be as bad as it sounds, but still a large draw on resources.

And I am sure the gov't is not paying the same as we, so the oil companies are making up the difference. As usual, we pay for everything.

BTW I just paid 2.68g for diesel 3 days ago here in Fresno California. And it is now up to 2.75g. I have no sympathy for you only paying at about 2.00g. But it would cost that for fuel in my old truck which only gets 9mpg so it's all good.

Not that it makes me feel a whole lot better at the pump, but I read that oil would be at $80+ per barrel (as opposed to mid-$50s) if inflation adjusted from the gas crunch in the early 80s. The good news is that oil is down 7% this week. Now if we can just equate that 7% at the pump...

equivilent UK price, $8.00 a gallon and rising.......http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rant.gif The super high UK price comes also from the fact that the US $ is worth next to nothing against the BP, Euro or any other major currency on this planet.

Converted into Euro the Gallon diesel fuel would cost 5.30 $ in Europe but a Euro will NOT buy 35 % more goods than a $ here. Still the price for diesel is crazy because it cannot be more than gasoline since diesel is much much cheaper to produce. The diesel price is just political, they get what they can get and for some reason people focus more on Irak then any other real problem for real people... and nobody does anything.... :exactly:

Where do you get your information? Barbara Boxer? The DoD has to purchase fuel in theater, as per SOFAs. The fuel used in Iraq is Iraqui....why pump it there, ship it here, then ship it back to put it into an Humvee that is right there?

If you can find facts that disputes this, and to back-up your claim, please post-it here. Otherwise, get off the "big brother" soap box, its your liberal imagination running away with you. BTW, zip up your fly. the women here are giggling so much its hard to concentrate. Sheesh!

You know, I believe that your are correct in the statement that all the fuel used by the military in Iraq in aquired there. I appreciate the fact that you are backing up my statement that the war is causing a drain on fuel reserves..... do you thin that all of the fuel used in the united states is pumped pumped out of oil wells in the states????? I believe that the last time I checked, the vast majority of crude oil used in the production of all related products came from the middle east.

I never stated that they had the oil shipped from here to there....that would be stupid. You are reading far to much into my comments.

As to where I get my information....20 years in the fueling industry has given me a unique perspective into its workings. If I shared some of the stuff I learned about how everything works you would all end up bombing your local refineries.

You speak of me letting my imagination running away, well I note that you are ex-military intelligence.... I guess this just proves that military intelligence is truely an oxymoron.

BTW You took the bait all the way didn't you! ):h :boxing:

The energy status report is issued weekly (every Wednesday) by the DOE (http://www.eia.doe.gov) and shows exactly how much we consume, how much is refined, imported etc. Lots of good reading.

The war has little if any impact on oil prices... sky rocketing demand in developing countries such as China and India have driven global consumption to all time highs. The auto industry in China and India is booming and all of those vehicles consume fuel.

Another factor that impacts finished product prices is the lack of refining capacity in the US... environmentalists have blocked the construction of new refining capacity in the US to the point where we actually now have to import finished motor gasoline and diesel (the amounts are in the report every week). US refineries have essentially been running all out (90+% of total capacity) for quite some time.

just do a search on stuff like this...but #2 is the one you want. The #1 blend is for winter and gets worse mileage because of the stuff they put in it so it does not jell up. #1 is called the Winter blend and usually drops a few miles per gallon.

Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the summer and it might go higher!!
Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action.
Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.23 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost! of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50- $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace....not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll

explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am . so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.

THIS CAN REALLY WORK. Kerry Lyle, Director, Research Coordinator

News today has petroleum stocks at high level, price per bbl crude down to 50.00 plus some change, drop of 8 bucks per bbl in last 10 days or so. Let's see if price drop is reflected as rapidly as the last increases were instituted when crude went up. Not recommended you hold you breath waiting however.

i just paid $2.45 in roch,ny for diesel up from $2.43 the other day

funny thin is the paper showes the national average of fuel wnet down last week but both ny state and rochester averages went up again
i read an artical in the paper saying fuel prices across the north east are going to take a sharp increase because they are switching from winter-summer fuel which suposedly costs more to make which if i'm not mistaken they said the same thing in october only the other way around

it's rediculous how diesel fuel was $1.60 here not even a year agoCensored

If you live anywhere near a Hess Station - get a Hess Visa! Got ours back in Jan. No Fee - 10% rebate on Hess purchases for 90 Days:cool: (5% rebate forever after that), and 1% rebate on purchases anywhere else. In MA Hess seems to be consistently the cheapest - even with or lower than unbranded. Rebates are applied to your Hess purchases the next month - with the DMax I know I'll be filling up again.

I'm just bummed that as prices go through the roof my 90 days ran out and it's only 5% now. Need to figure out how to get the dog a Hess Visa so I can get another 90 days at 10%. But 5% at $2.29 still means I'm only paying $2.176:)

We made this card our primary card . The 1% adds up pretty good. We used to use the ATM card at the grocery store, money came out of the checking account and we got nothing. Now use the card and get 1% in free fuel. In the past couple months I bought an OilGuard - 1% in free fuel, Nicktane - 1% in free fuel, Retrax - 1% in free fuel, new living room furniture- 2 free tanks of fuel ; you get the idea.

I think free diesel burns better;)

Wow, I don't feel so bad only paying $2.19 a gallon up here in Alaska. I did pass a couple of fuel stops yesterday that had increased diesel to $2.32 - $2.39 a gallon.

I have the advantage of being able to fill up at my local military basehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/snipersmilie.gif. Fuel on base is usually 5% lower in cost than stations off base.

Living in Alaska, with the tourist season starting up, I have already seen diesel prices outside Anchorage start to increase in preparation for all the diesel pushers that will arrive soon. I would expect to see diesel prices quickly approach the $3.00 mark by the end of June. Who knows...it may not stop at $3.00.

What will it be next summer?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/help.gif

Amazing how they like to bend us over the pump by slowly lowering prices when the market value of a barrel of crude drops but boy let the price of crude go up one penny and you see it reflected at the pump the next day!!!

Take Reno for example, while oil was in the upper $40's per barrel last week (and the week before) prices were trickling down, 1 cent this week, 3 cents the next. Then this week (Tuesday I believe) oil prices went up again, BAMO 9 cent raise in 1 day, 4 cent raise the next day!!!

Ohh if there were only a way to really fight the oil companies, maybe if everyone abandoned the big stations like Exxon, Chevron, Shell and just visited the small corner stations the big boys would begin to hurt enough to drop their prices. I'm not talking a 1 day opt-out like we read in the email chain letters so often but a long term (read months if necessary) boycott of the big boys. Unfortunately for that to work lots and lots of the driving public would have to participate, then the long lines would follow so a few here and there would sneak back to the big boys... yeah we can all complain and I do think we're getting bent, but the buying public as a whole does not have the backbone to actually impact the market by refusing to pay higher prices.
