: Regen status on insight monitor

Posting a question for my father. I bought him an Insight for his LMM (07.5 2500) and he just got home from his first trip with the insight. He was not towing on this trip but drove several thousand miles. Prior to having the Insight, he did not know if/when he was experiencing regens. He is seeing a message that says something about regen requested for about 15 minutes before it reports "active". Then the active report stays on for well over 1 hour. As a matter of fact he is not sure if he has ever seen it indicate a completed regen. Today he experienced a 90 minute regen that only ended because he had to stop driving and turned off the truck.

I personally have not seen this display. I have an insight on my Powerstroke and only get an active or inactive indicator. Needless to say, he could be confused. I know I am!

Can someone with knowledge of how the insight reports this process tell me if there is something wrong with his motor or if he is misreading the indication?

BTW, truck has 25-30K miles, has probably towed 5-10K miles but only a 6-7K lb travel trailer. No mods.

Thanks so much for any help,

Lee

I have noticed on my insight that regen is in process when the display changes to Required. Once the regen stops (the DPF cools back down to normal), the displays says Active. It will continue to say Active until I shut down. The next time I start the truck the display will say Not Required. It seems wrong in the way it displays the status...I keep thinking it will be changed on the next firmware update.

BTW, if your dad gets the monthly OnStar reports for his truck, he will need to unplug his insight on the last of each month. The insight connected to the truck prevents OnStar from retrieving the health information in the computers.

Thanks for the info. That is definitely misleading! Also interesting info on the Onstar report. I will pass both on.

Thanks again.

normally watched the EGT sensors when I had DPF installed. When in the 1100 degrees it is regenerating. then lowers to 600s and is where I think it is discharging the soot. What issue with onstar like it maybe it reports it cannot get info. If so then my DashHawk II which is very close to the Insight does the same. Technically one cannot connect more than one device to the Externall side of the Can Bus Interface. You can have many internal ones but only one external.

The regen status doesn't work right and is pretty much useless. Watch the soot mass, that will tell you what is going on along with the set alarm if you want to be annoyed.

What I do on my Insight is when the red regen required message appears and starts to flash I press and hold the enter button for a few seconds then release it. It goes back to my original screen showing soot mass and I watch the number go to zero. I assume when the soot mass reaches zero the regen is complete.

I have the DASHHAWK PN13100. Made by MSD like the Edge. I have it on the 6 screen function. LT Tran Temp, RT Regen Stat, LM EGT 1, RM Sootmass, LB EGT 2, RB Current Gear. When it starts regen the Regen Stat changes to Required. The sootmass starts to drop as the EGT 1 & 2 reaches 1100 to 1200 degrees. When the sootmass reaches around 2 or 1 the Required word changes to Active and the EGTs begin to drop. The Active word stays on until you stop the engine. I hope this helps.
