The bulb went out and now when its dark I cant see where my climate is set. (up hot or down cold) Not so much of a big inconvenience but I don't like broke stuff. How do you get to it? Is it replaceable?

Thankful

I had some bulbs burn ouyt in my suburban, and they had to replace the radio. My advice, keep the dash lights on a relatively low level, and the bulbs will last the longest. The brighter you keep them, the less they will last. I try to tell everbody with relatively new vehicles, esp GM, to keep their dash lights on low to try to avoid this. I bet once off waranty, it's very expensive to fix.

One of my complaints about "todays" designed/built vehicles. You would think that changing/replacing a dash light bulb would be easy/cheap. Not in "todays" vehicles. They're designed so they can assemble them fast on the assembly line. I don't think there is much thought put into them in making them easy for owners to work on them, or are they really designed that way intentionally?

wldtrky - you might be able to have a new bulb soldered in, if you can get the unit apart.......If there's a radio repair shop in your area, they might be able to do it for you.....
I have a feeling that climate control head would cost you big coin:eek: if you buy a new one....

I second the suggestions of getting a radio repair shop to do it. Find who does delco radio repair in your area. If you can't find someone who does delco you should be able to get any radio shop to do it. With delco you probably have a better chance of them getting the same bulbs.

you might think about getting a new (used) control panel from a wrecked truck or even getting the manual control panel.

If you can live without it for a couple days. You can send it to me and I can fix it for cheap...

After I bought my 01 Duramax a month ago I found out that all the radio lights were burnt out, the local radio shop wanted 200.00 to repair it or 8.00 per bulb ( there are 10 lights in it !!). After searching the net I found the following web site that sells the light for 20.00 for all 10 and they even tell you how to change the bulbs. These lights my be the same as you need for the climate control.

Just because the bulb isn't replacable doesn't mean you can't replace it. You just need to put in a bunch of time and risk breaking the control head. Make sure you've got the proper soldering iron and know how to unsolder components from a circuit board without ruining it. As a heads up, in the 2003 Bose radio every bulb is in series with one other bulb, so there's at least a chance the climate head is done the same way. I've replaced at least a dozen unreplacable bulbs in my Audi. It probably wold have cost $1K to replace all of the controllers. You'll also have the hassle of finding out how to get the correct bulb, then hopefully post the information to save the rest of us from having to figure it out in the future.

You can look at this two ways:

1) You'll learn a new skill, tell all of us about that skill so then we can do it too, and save a boatload of money

- or -

2) You'll F-up and short something, so you'll have to replace the unit ANYWAY, then post and tell us not to attempt it, and spend boatloads of money on it.

Choice is yours. I'd try #1 first, whatd'ya got to lose?

Blue Ox...Where are you? I might tear this dash down and finger out how to get the darn thing out in a couple of weeks. I'm out on the road away from tools right now. Sallisaw, OK. The radio shop idear may be the best idear if there is "no waiting"
