Just talked with the dealership they told me that my truck had problems with the left head gasket and 2 sleeves near bad spot, ask how long it would before I get my truck back and they told me they were waiting on a gasket for the left side because GM has changed the head gasket on the left side does this mean that GM has had problems with the left side head gasket.or is this just the dealer feeding me a line of $Xit.Has anyone heard of this problem before?

they most likely dont have the gasket in stock so they ordered it. Hope they get the correct one? there are 3 choices.

What were the problems with the sleeves, and how are they addressing them. Is the dmax a sleeved engine? You are under warranty right?

What are the 3 choices for head gaskets? How are they different?
The problem I was haven was the coolent system was pressuring up and blowing coolent out the tank.

How did they know the left head gasket is bad and not the right?

They pulled both sides and found the problem was on the left side. Thats when they said that GM had 3 different part numbers for the left side head gasket. The way they made it sound was that GM had problems with just the left side because the right side had only 1 part number any info on this matter would be a big help.

If there has been a head gasket problem with the Duramax, it must be a very small problem, as there has been an extremely small number of people talking about any head gasket issues here or anywhere else.

There has been maybe a dozen that I have read about, and two of them were on the same truck with about 100,000 miles at the time of the problem, and most have been with boxes, and or drugs.

I thought you said they only replaced the left side. I assume since they removed both of them that they replaced both of them. There is 3 different gaskets for each side depending on piston height.

3 Different heights?

We could effectively lower our static compression then?

Would there be a downside?

Piston hitting the head would be a downside. :(

The difference in the headgaskets is less then squat. Below numbers are gasket thicknesses. Quite a range of overlap.
