Hello all!! I'm a fairly new member with a question about a scenerio that has now happened to me twice. I own a 2008 Chevy - 3500 LMM CC/LB. Two times now I've been cruising home from work, outside temps of <-20F, and I lose power. Computer states reducing engine power/0% fuel filter life remaining/change fuel filter. First time was at 2500 miles. Took to shop. They said fuel had geled and fuel filter was plugged. They changed fuel filter and reccommended I use a anti-gel additive in my fuel. They reccommended GM brand or Power Services additive. I opted to use the Power Services and have added it to each tank since. Second time was at 4100 miles. Took to shop and again they said that my fuel had geled and filter is plugged. I then went and talked directly to the mechanic and told him that I've been putting the additive in each tank of fuel. He plugged in his scanner and cleared the codes. I think the scanner said low fuel rail pressure. He told me to go run about 10 gallons of fuel out of the tank and replace it with #1 Diesel. Truck has been running fine since, but it hasn't been as cold out either. Is this a problem the LMM's are having in cold weather? Am I unlucky enough to be getting alot of bad fuel? I wish I knew! Advice and/or comments appreciated. Thank you.........

Check fluids and maint section, many recent threads, lots of this around especially in the midwest during the cold snaps.....

I've read many of the threads on this problem. All seem to be a little different in circumstance with no clear solution to the cause. I'm wondering if this is something that should be being addressed with the computer by GM or operator error? Hmmmm.....

Ya, agree to many different circumstances. Having had problems last year with 'winterized' fuel gelling on me I have gone to great extent this year to make sure that I am running a minimum of 50/50 1/2 and that has taken care of it for me..... Colder spells too this year.

Are you mixing #2 and 50/50? Is that what you mean?

Nah, it is 50% number 2 50% number 1. When it gets below -30 I run straight #1. Hard to find #1 here but I managed, only worries I have is going out and about without having some in the back of the truck!

I see. I'll try the 50/50 after I run most of this tank out. Thanks for the advice and comments, appreciate very much. Take care!!

I had new Titan Super Series installed about a month ago. First tank full got "low fuel rail pressure." Changed fuel filter and still had restricted fuel pressure. Come to find out there was black plactic in the tank. Installer pulled sending unit and cleaned out the plastic and I've had no more problems last 1500 miles. Just a thought for ya.
