The brakes in my truck have a pulse right before you stop. It seems like the antilock kicking in but it shouldnt be when doing a normal stop. ANy suggestions, anybody else have this problem?

Sounds like either very dirty or warped rotors to me. While the rotors are cold, try washing them with some soapy water and rinse really good. If the surging continues you may have to have the rotors turned. How many miles on your truck? JJ :)

Check for dirt/rust on the ABS sensors.

I had that same problem on my 97 1/2 ton. Turned out to be a bad sensor on the left front wheel. One side was reading 3mph and the other 0 mph. This was causing the antilock system to kick in.

Bullydog, is it a rapid pulse just before stopping? If you apply the brakes rather firmly at 45-50mph does the front end shimmy? The ABS system has all kinds of sensors on it, normally throws a ABS trouble light. My 96 GMC had a sensor problem on the rear drum and the ABS light came on.

Sounds like a trip to a brake shop may be in order. JJ :)

Mine recently started doing this . When brakes are applied it feels like the tires suddenly go out of "round", it's almost a lurching feeling. Had the rotors checked and they were perfect. Still hoping for some suggestions.

No flaming please, this was even hard for the teck to believe!

I had a similar feeling with the brakes on the 02, and dealer was ready to replace pads, rotors, etc. There was a very slight pulse/growling sound just before stopping and that was it.

I asked them to check the u-joints prior to starting any brake work. The teck took the drive shaft off, put the u-joint in the vise and the weight of the drive shaft was not enought to get the u-joint to flex. Replaced the u-joint and pulse/growl gone.

How do you check the ABS? How do they work?

Thanks.
