Im new here and new to diesels but i have a quick question about the used 01 Duramax i just bought. Bought the truck for $20,000 w/69K miles on it. It had an ATS Performance sticker on the tailgate and after searching for what had been modified, i found out that is has an ATS exhaust and gauges on the a pillar (boost and exhaust temp) Now my question is how do i know if it is chipped? Im sure it was at one time but im guessing it was taken out before the guy traded it in. thanks for any help

I am sure it was chipped...........gauges and an exhaust..........see if you can find the previous owner thru dealer or motor vehicle records.........also post the VIN# in ask the tech's section and see what if any repairs were done.
Good Luck,

Oh yeah, I bet she was chipped. I agree with the above post.

If you are trying to determine if the truck "still is chipped" (you know it "was" chipped), then try an acceleration run as a quick check. If the exhaust runs relatively clean (virtually no smoke), then the ECM was probably restored to stock.

Mash the throttle from a dead stop with 0 boost. If it smokes its got something done to it or there is something wrong. Also does it run like a MF? Quicker than a new v a PU truck or about the same?

look on the right side of header. If it has an egt probe hole or an egt guage its most likely chipped.
