: Stanadyne survey
Thankful 04-06-2005, 06:17 AM I am currently researching Stanadyne (diesel fuel additive) to decide if I should use it. Participants may want to see the following links.
http://www.stanadyne.com/dsg/showfile.asp?id=1295
http://www.stanadyne.com/new/ppt/showfile.asp?id=2499
http://www.stanadyne.com/new/ppt/showfile.asp?id=1687 (GM approval notice)
I realize these links are commercially biased which is why I am seeking information from users. I would appreciate comments from everyone that has used Standayne, especially anyone that has used it and stopped using it. Why?
Is it cost effective since diesel fuel is so high right now?
How often should it be used?
Many thanks!
rwagner64 04-06-2005, 07:38 AM To be honest, I never heard of Standayne until I started reading on this site. After reading several posts on the subject I started using Standayne, I am interested in the performance and longevity of my Duramax and preventive maintenance in my opinion is one of the best things you can do.
I have been using it for about a month and I will continue to use it, I do think the vehicle runs cleaner and doesn't put out as much smoke.
This site has alot of people with alot of good information and I am just one of those people that listen to good advice.
I pay $6.50 a bottle and it is good for 60 Gal, I use it every fill up.
Cost effective?? I hope I never find out.
05DMAX 04-06-2005, 08:32 AM Ive been using stanadyne for a few months now and i have seen my highest fuel mileage number ever while using it. I decided to run a tank without and see the results, that tank got about 2 to 3 less MPG on the highway. Now this was just one occurance so it may have been fluke but i never saw more than 16 or 17 highway before and while on a 2000 mile trip (using stanadyne) i was into the 18-19.5 range the whole trip at 80+ and some city mixed in too.
Also, I noticed that the motor was louder when using it (most noticeable at higher RPMs while on the highway). I'm guessing it was the centane booster. It hasn't been doing it on the current tank that is without stanadyne. Anyone else notice this?
jetboatjockey 04-06-2005, 08:48 AM use it in every other tank or when convient. can not say it helps, but does not seem to hurt anything. o5 lly, edge j with ***. and bd pup.
skoryaro2 04-06-2005, 09:02 AM Used it for 5K miles. Now use Power Service. Saw no difference in performance or MPG's. Stanadyne was not cost efficient in my eyes. Just my 02.
turbo lcc 04-06-2005, 09:29 AM I use powerservice my self as it is easier to find.
Biterman 04-06-2005, 09:34 AM I use an additive but the main reasons I use one is to keep little bugs from growing in my tank and to disperse water. MY research (Critics, note I said MY RESEARCH) concluded that RBP's performance additive did these two things best. You might want to check it out.
BTW, they claim it does more than these two things but all that is subjective study. They actually proved to to me through product comparison and demonstration that for water dispersement of the top 4 and Stanadyne didn't hold a candle! When shaken with equal parts of water looked like italian salad dressing.
my .02
duramaximizer 04-06-2005, 11:42 AM just finished off a 5 gal bucket of it on the last 1000 tank fill up a home. we run everything on it. dad says he notices an increase in the performance of the truck on acceleration. I can see it maybe a tweek bit, but it did help on mileage anywhere from 1-2. the dozers like it better and that's wear you notice better power during a lug and less smoke.
we get ours from our local JD dealer.

Remember that Stanadyne is a demulsifier. If they were comparing it to emulsifier additives than it should look completely different.
Chisuzu 04-06-2005, 12:43 PM Agreed. Stanadyne is used to remove water. I use it in every tank.
Greg Carter 04-06-2005, 01:12 PM Hi--You guys should look into Amsoil's ADC diesel fuel concentrate--cost is 6.05 for 16 oz.--treats up to 100 gal. I've used this product for 10 years. Keeps the entire fuel system clean from the tank to the inj. pump!! It has lubricity to keep the pump living LONG!! It's great for fuel economy--we all know how important that is becoming!! They also have a cetane boost that can be used with it, that really smartins things up!! Check it out!!!!!!!

redneck45 04-06-2005, 01:19 PM Been using primrose for the last year, almost out, been thinkin about switchin to stanadyne!
4kops 04-06-2005, 03:03 PM A good fuel additive is good to use. What you don't want in the additive is alcohol as it hurts your cetane level and drys out anything that is rubber. I don't think that I would guarentee you will see a fuel milage increase but some say they do. The most important thing is that you want to add lubricity back to the fuel and get rid of water. I think some said they are using Powerservice because of availbility and thats right you can buy it just about anywhere but all the Powerservice that I have seen does contain alcohol. I sell Stanadyne and another product that is made by a company called E-ZOIL (www.ezoil.com (http://www.ezoil.com)) I think it is just as good and cheaper. Comes in a 16 oz. bottle and sells for $7.28 whick treats 240 gallons. Just my two cents.
Liftedhdrado 04-06-2005, 03:54 PM I'm using RBP's diesel additive..seems to work okay. I think the bottle costs like 19 bucks and treats up to 500 gallons...
Liftedhdrado 04-06-2005, 03:55 PM RBP'S Diesel Additive keeps your injectors lubricated and working properly, it will increase your fuel mileage. If you’re getting bad fuel mileage it’s most likely due to dirty injectors. RBP’S diesel fuel additive lubricates your fuel injection systems helping double the life of your injectors and injection pump. RBP’S Diesel Additive totally disperses water, lubricates cylinder walls, controls waxing and gelling, prevents formation of algae, harmful acid, decarbonizes combustion chamber. Our 16oz bottle treats up to 500 gallons and contains no alcohol. Water is welcome almost everywhere-EXCEPT in your diesel engine. Water in diesel fuel damages injectors, corrodes tanks and fosters the growth of bacteria. Our highly-concentrated Diesel Additive removes unwanted water to protect your engine and keep it running smooth. RBP’S Diesel Additive is also an all in one package which contains lubricity.
diesel man 04-06-2005, 04:16 PM I Had Injector Problems With 750 Miles On My Truck . I Started Using Stanadyne On Every Fill Up And Have Not Had Another Issue With My Injectors Since . I Now Have 10000 Miles On The Truck . Seems A Good Enough Reason To Use Stanadyne To Me .
tweir 04-06-2005, 04:35 PM I live in North San Diego County---can't find a dealer listed on the Stanadyne web page for our area---hate to drive down to San Diego/National City to buy it---the ride is the pits...!
Chisuzu 04-06-2005, 04:49 PM You can order it online. I did last time. Was gonna get it in gallons 'cause its cheaper that way, but they were back ordered so I got the bottles. Next time, its the gallons though.
Just do a search on it, you'll find it.
GMC-DMAX 04-06-2005, 05:16 PM Been using Stanadyne for about one year now. Haven't seen any increase in mpg. I guess it's like the vitamin's I take maybe they work, maybe not. But I keep taking them and I'll keep using Stanadyne. I just hope for the best.
Gonfishin 04-06-2005, 06:11 PM I am looking at a bottle of P.S Diesel Kleen. On the back it states "Does Not Contain Alcohol Of Any Kind"
Rick
Chisuzu 04-06-2005, 06:14 PM Then don't waste your time. All bloat, no buzz. :beerchug:

Bodysurfer 04-06-2005, 06:21 PM I'm using RBP's diesel additive..seems to work okay. I think the bottle costs like 19 bucks and treats up to 500 gallons...
I 2nd that. I am using the RBP's High Performance Diesel Additive (http://rollingbigpower.com/products/?sfID1=12&productID=5) .

cdlinstr 04-06-2005, 07:37 PM I have been using the power service diesel kleen for about a month and have noticed a higher mpg average,it lubricates, boosts cetane, also is a cleaner as well and has no alcohol. It can be purchased at walmat for about $5.00 per quart and will treat about 100 gallons
4kops 04-06-2005, 10:25 PM That maybe true about the Diesel Kleen normally diesel fuel additive is not very flamable maybe one of you guys can dip a piece of paper in the diesel kleen and try to light it it really shouldn't light. A very simply way to see if a additive takes care of water is to mix 1 oz or so of water with eual amount of additive then use a water finding paste (fuel stations use it to dip there tanks) and see if there is any water left just a thought. I know that Ezoil's Diesel Aid Plus Cetane does what is says
Nevwop01 04-08-2005, 03:35 PM I've used Stanadyne in every tankfull for a year now. Started at 4K and now have 20K, have not had any fuel system problems at all. Before I started using it I would notice a difference in performance when fueling at different stations. Now the performance is way more steady. My best mpg. since the lift and 295/75/16's was 17.5 at 78mph Predator on 65hp with about 20 miles of city driving on the same trip. I like Stanadyne my truck likes Stanadyne, so I will keep using it until I prove to myself something else works better. BTW mpg hand calculated .
Dennis
cdlinstr 04-09-2005, 04:34 PM As 4kops suggested I dipped a piece of paper in the power service diesel kleen and tryed lighting the paper, it did light very easily.I did not have water paste to try the mixing test with water at this time
dieselmaniac 04-09-2005, 04:53 PM I use Cen-Pe-Co -central petroleum company fuel additives. They have several different types and all have cetane boost, lubricating addivtives, etc. the atomic power additive is a anti gel version, works great for the northern maine winters i have to deal with. Goodluck with it so far. if i can't get my hands on that then i run standyne but prefer the cen-pe-co.
cdlinstr 04-09-2005, 05:35 PM I didn't know that cen pen co was still operating I used to use their products when I ran a tractor, they made a great chassis grease that was resistant to washout called polygrease.Do you have a local distributor or mail order their products. thanks
LaBeym 04-09-2005, 07:46 PM Have been using stanadyne with every tankfull for two years. Have 33k miles. Cheap insurance along with Nicktane pre-filter. Anything to improve lousy quality of American D2!
dieselmaniac 04-09-2005, 09:10 PM I been living between Maine and New Jersey. one place in bangor carries all their stuff. these guys swear buy it. <www.dieselfuelsystems.net> also i have mail ordered stuff straight from them. I have only used the fuel additive and its top notch stuff. they do make a syn-blend oil with parrifin base thats supposed to be wicked good. hope this helps
4kops 04-10-2005, 01:29 AM If someome wants to do a test comparing additive I think it would be a great idea. I am willing to supply the test kit (w/ water paste) if your additive lights up I would think it has to have alcohol. Diesel will not light like that nor should the additive. I can't stress how important a good additive is to use it is way to cheap of insurance verus a injector or two. Let me know if someone is willing to do a unbais test I am willing to supply a bottle of Stanadyne and Ezoil Diesel Aid+. I recommend someone who is well know and trusted on this forum I don't know I am kind of new.
Bodysurfer 04-10-2005, 08:27 AM I am always up for trying and testing products. I be willing to test any product. I am currently using the RBP's High Performance Diesel Additive (http://rollingbigpower.com/products/?sfID1=12&productID=5) but looking at Standadyne or any other addative to give the MAX what it needs.
