Fox Fairy dropped off @ Nor-Cal !!!! :ro)

There is a lucky member on here that has a set of these KILLER looking Fox Res shocks that bolt right into the OEM location with NO mod's other than mounting the res.

The lucky member will have a tracking number later today:)

Nick,

I've been trying to get answer some questions on shocks. I want to put bilsteins on my 2003 dually, but not the yellow ones. My front is factory, and back is dropped two inches. will the silver shocks for lifted trucks work? I'm open to suggestions if you want to push the fox's

Congratulations to the winner.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I hear bilsteins can fade in the dunes and personally I don't like the dual look. So a single reservoir should get the job done nicely. :D

I agree completely. After a couple of hours in the dunes I touched the bilstien and it dam near burned me. It was even a cold day out. It was then that I realized that the single bilstien was not up to the task of a 9k lb truck and 37's. Just have to wait for some more money to become available.

You could run the 6" Fox with a shock extender. I will be 100% with you. We had single Fox's on a 7-9 w/35's and then went to the duals and it made a big difference in the dunes on the bigger truck. I would still put your money on the duals for your set up and use.

Just for kicks I drew up a mock up of where I want to put the reservoir. I have a couple billet clamps coming but might fab something like this up later. From 2" 16g tubing, couple tabs welded on, whole thing welded to an 1/8" plate that mounts to the upper shock cup. It's not super detailed but you get the idea.

there are some companies that make clamps like that for towers on wakeboard boats. you might be able to pick some up and use them in the same way. you would just need to make the plate then bolt the clamps to it. i will look around and see what i find.

here's one placehttp://www.diywake.com/shop/shopexd.asp?id=567

there are wider ones also. you could possibly use just one per side

http://www.xtremewake.com/Clamps.php

this place has different styles also

this looks like a good mounting option if you are going to run a single in the stock position. you could make a small "L" bracket like above to mount the clamp to.

Can I just say I like you man!!! Instead of slamming them on and driving it you are really doing the little things to make for a clean install:)

confrontational
02-02-2009, 10:28 PM
Well got them on and took a nice drive. Overall I'm very impressed and it was WELL worth the $$. For an out of the box setup, the valving is really impressive. If you're running a wheel/tire that weight wise is relatively close to stock, these will be darn near perfect from day one. I'm running some 20x10 welds on 35x13.5 heavy tires and my personal preference, with my truck seeing 90% street duty, it could use a bit less high speed compression. Now mind you, this is really nit-picking and coming from someone with a considerable amount of suspension tuning background. Big dips and hard hits, these things are amazing. If you are the type to wheel your truck or do any off-roading, these are a must have.

Performance wise, compared to stock, there is no comparison. Nothing else to say. They are 1000% better everywhere, in every possible scenario. Compared to a bilstein, IMO they are marginally better in the short term. Both ride very well and in the bigger hits, Fox takes the cake. As well, the harder you push it, the Fox will only shine brighter. Especially in conditions where the bilsteins get hot and start to fade.

Price wise, IMO they are worth every penny. Yeah they are twice the price of the Bil's, but from what I have seen you're getting about 5x as much shock for the money. Just the fact that you CAN tune, valve, rebuild them is a huge step up. And the quality is 2nd to none. When you see the huge stainless steel shaft, anodized fittings, braided steel lines, it's very apparent it was money well spent.

For my install, right now i'm using a single billet clamp on the reservoir. Honestly, it's not giving me that warm & fuzzy feeling. I personally wouldn't ever clamp a reservoir in the mid-body. Reason being is that there is a piston sliding around in there, and even a little tension from a clamp can cause it to bind. From my experience, two clamps on the ends will give a much more secure mount and no worries about anything moving.

All in all, i'm extremely happy with the results and would do it again in a second. Looking back, the black anodized fittings aren't really necessary as you can't hardly see them, but i'm very anal about this stuff and to me it's a must have.

Oh and the clear bra came out great! You can't see anything from the pictures, but over time it will become extremely apparent as the shocks will continue to look as good as new. When you're spending this kind of $$$ on shocks, why not protect them as best you can? It's dark out now, but I'll get some final installed pictures up asap.

:D

Little update. I put ~150 miles on them today and overall I'm very happy. Even my g/f said everything feels much smoother and more solid overall. Plus she said they look bad ass! As far as I'm concerned this is the baseline shock option. If you can swing the $40k+ for one of these trucks, you owe it to yourself to spend the $$ and make it immensely better. If you don't have the $$$, don't dare ride in a truck that has them. you'll never be the same after that.

Nope haven't had them offroad yet but overall they are great. I'm debating pulling them apart to play with the valving but haven't had the time or desire to get messy. My only real wish was that they were about 1" longer. I still had to use the extended lower shock mounts because they are very very close to stock length, but do have about 1.5" more travel.

Fox has listed on their website they have these shocks for a 4-6" kit mounted to the lower arm. Or you can just run the clevis adapter on the top and use a standard 2.0 resi.

Clear bra is working out great. You can't even hardly tell it's there, but it will prevent the shocks from getting that dull beat up look over time.

I had my local guy do it just because he's done other cars and the front of the truck for me and whipped it out in a few minutes. With these being straight cylinders I don't see any reason you couldn't buy the film and wrap them yourself.

No clue what it would have cost, he just hooked me up.

That's just the generic name of the product. It's technically a 3M scotchgard paint protection film.

Google clearbar in your area and i'm sure you'll find a ton of installers. Not sure how close you are, but a buddy of mine had pretty much his entire car and his truck done at Lamborghini Ohio, they did a very nice job.
