Just purchased 2001 4x4 with 8.1 and allison. every thing works fine except!! when transmission is cold it shifts down into 1st with a real good thuck. Stealer said this is normal. After about 2 blocks problem goes away and everything works great, 60k miles:help: any advise?

Scan it with a Tech 2, if no codes reset TAPS. This does not sound serious.

Make sure it has the lastest calibrations in it as well. Lots of updates for 01's

Mine did that somewhat until I had the 5th gear override installed, then the trans was reprogrammed and all is pretty much quiet now.

It wouldn't hurt to check if there is a reflash available for your truck. However, the Allison tranny does take some getting used to. I thought it was really quirky at first. Now that I've owned it for a while, gotten used to the tranny, etc... I love it.

no codes and changed fluid and filter. how do you reset taps. Dealer says it is normal.
