I changed my oil filter today and took an oil sample to be analyzed.

Since the last time I was under my truck it has developed a slight oil leak. There is an oil film around the aft corners of the bottom oil pan gasket and down to the mating surface between the bell housing and the transmission with one drop of oil suspended on the seam.

I am thinking the leak is from the oil pan gasket since it is higher up and gravity and air flow would move the oil aft and down on the bell housing?

I found a lower oil pan gasket (Felpro) at Autozone and it seems to me replacing the gasket should be straight forward?

Any thoughts or comments or lessons learned on my diagnosis or replacing this gasket?

Before dropping the oil pan, I would check the area around your turbo outlet. Since the PCV lines route in that area, check to see if you're getting oil seep that is dripping down the back of the block. I regularly have to clean up the oil that collects in that area as part of my maintenance. I hope you don't have to drop the oil pan. Good luck.

You sure it isn't drip from changing the oil filter. They make a little mess those squirlly bast**ds.

Vin63 - sounds like a good idea-I'll check the aft face of the block and the area around the turbo outlet.

Dirtbikin - the oil residue was present before I changed the oil filter so it's not oil from the filter change.

Thanks for the inputs.

I noticed that you have a egr blocking plate. Make sure that it is sealed up real good! If you see any kind of oil residue around that area that means you have a slight leak and it can drain down the engine and leak out and, you will see a drip between the back off the motor and tranny bell housing.

Thanks, I'll check around the EGR plate.
