I know it's been said that there is no problem running Biodiesel in our trucks, But I was reading at Biodiesel.org and came across this:
Engine and Fuel System Compatability For B20 and lower blends, any diesel engine can be used without modifications or changes being made. At this blend level, no adverse materials or system compatibility problems have been observed, with the exception of those listed below:
· All biodiesel tanks, vehicles and fueling systems should be free of certain materials tat accelerate biodiesel degrading such as copper, brass, bronze, lead, tin and zinc. If these types of materials come in contact with biodiesel, it will degrade much faster than normal, causing high sediment levels, filter clogging and other detrimental effects. Higher blend levels will be worse, but even B20 or B5 levels in copper lines can cause filters to clog.
I don't know if our stock fuel systems have any of the listed materials, but I know some people use brass fittings when they install additional filtration and/or lift pumps. What materials are used to make the lift pumps and filter kits such as the FM100's or Racors?
