Has anyone used the bed liner that you can buy in a quart or gallon? How does it look and holdup? Looking for a cheaper option for the do-it-yourselfer.

Ughh! Friend of my used it, ordered from Cabelas. Works okay, but really a pain in the butt. That is some nasty stuff. After it was done, he said it would have been worth it to pay the $450 to have it done.
Speaking of, if you're a Costco member. . .in the Costco pamphlets at the store, I believe they're still offering a $50 off coupon for Rhino linings. There's some folks that don't really like it because it fades, but a little treatment preserves the nice new look. It does provide more slip resistance than Line X. My dogs really appreciate it.
Good luck to you.

I used that stuff to "paint" the fenderwells on my horse trailer. I didn't think it was too bad to put on, but we let the can sit out on the black trailer fender most of a sunny 70 degree afternoon before beginning to apply it. I don't know if the instructions say it is okay to let warm up like that or not, but it sure made it easier to apply.

To answer your question about holding up, it has seemed to hold up pretty well under the fenders. We took our time getting everything meticulously cleaned before applying, though.

Thanks. I was going to use it on my flat bed (diamond plate) and on my running boards. I was looking for an alternative to the black paint I currently use, which doesn't hold up very well under abuse. :grd:

I've tried the do it yourself liner and it looks cool till something scrapes it then it tears. But it worked great for my running boards braces.

I actually did my entire car hauler with that stuff. works pretty good. I of course didn't do the best prep work so I will be doing it again soon. I like the fact that I don't slip on the ramps or when pushing/moving a car around.

the diamond plate is nice, but once a liquid is on it say BYE BYE to traction!

No sh!t! I slid off the diamond plate bed during the last rain.

P.S. Briano, just noticed you are in austin. I work in south austin, maybe a get together is in order sometime?

Yes, I used it to do the rear step bumper on my '65.

If you follow the instructions exactly you get a good, tough result. Multiple
coats are required for a good finish, like 6 or so.

But it is nasty, nasty stuff to work with. Plan on throwing away your
shoes, pants, shirt, gloves. Much worse than that is it is methylene
chloride based; very hard on the nerves. Use a pressure suit with
remote air pickup. Better yet pay somebody else to do it.

i used it on my old truck. i did all the prep work and applied it properly. not only does it scrape off if you drag anything on it, but the sides actually just started wearing off (from the rain i guess??) after a few months. i took pics and emailed the manufacturer about it and they just sent me another gallon of the crap. of course i wasnt going to go through all that work to reapply a crappy product so i gave it away. i would not recommend it and save your money to have it professionally sprayed with a lifetime warranty.

BTW, this was the herculiner brand.

I used it on my bedrails. I sanded the paint and cleaned very well. Now the stuff is flaking off. It was about 2 years ago I applied it and it looked very nice for over a year. But long term, I am talking to a line-x rep now and I need to get all that junk completely off and he will do it for $180, or if he does the extra work it will be $300. He said if I get it all off he will spray the bed rails, the upper part of my tailgate and the very front of my hood for $450. I am going line-x. Tried the cheaper way once, and you get what you pay for.

Big question. Will the can of "stuff" hold up longer than paint?

not on mine it didnt. the factory paint is tougher and doesnt just fall off, you have to have something that gouges or scrapes it.

The fender wells on my trailer have sure held up well for several years and a lot of gravel driving. I don't think just regular paint would have held up to the gravel abuse as well.

my car hauler has held up well..its been a few years and it sits out in the rain as well as getting every type of car related fluid on it not to mention held all kinds of other stuff. Its weathered though, but as I said I didn't do the best prep work on it. this next time around will be complete sandblasting all around, since rust is on the bottom, and do the entire thing again.

Well, I picked up a 1 qt. can of Dupli-Color Bed liner from Wally world. I will test a spot and see if I like it. Otherwise, I will just keep repatching with industrial enamel.
