: New GM transmission fluid-Dextron VI announced
OCDUNE 04-05-2005, 11:19 AM GM announced new Transmission fluid-Dextron VI. Looks like it is for the new 2006 Hydramatic transmissions. Not sure if it will be backwards compatible with the Allison.

"The development of DEXRONŽ-VI is the first time an automotive company has worked so closely with petroleum and additive companies to develop a new fluid," says Roy Fewkes, driveline fluids group leader, GM Powertrain. "The result is a new fluid that significantly outperforms existing fluids in every aspect. In fact, we have had to significantly extend the length of our durability tests to fully test the fluid's capability."

any bets on if it might be in the new (well kinda) 6 speed allison?
Mike L. 04-05-2005, 03:08 PM I have a feeling I'm going to like this new fluid. :smoke2:

-Lady of the night- "hey :pimp:, new cologne?"
-Mike L.- "Yeah baby, its Dextron VI, all of the cool tranny guys are wearing it."

OK, so maybe that is not what you had in mind ):h

kbstinky 04-05-2005, 04:32 PM Ya know.
Gynacologists do it with KY, tranny guys will do it with Dex VI.

Transmission guys do it automaticaly.:exactly:

"It's not the size of the input shaft, its the torque it can handle!"

"It's not the size of the input shaft, its the torque it can handle!"I think it's the cute way we get on and off that counts.
kbstinky 04-05-2005, 07:33 PM Mike,
I always thought that tranny guys did it manually.
Especially if you are wearing a frilly red dress.

OCDUNE 04-06-2005, 07:54 PM Well I guess I have no one else to for this thread going off topic but myself. Anyone have any good thoughts on Dextron VI or is it just wait and see?

TheBac 04-06-2005, 07:59 PM We know as much as you do about it, OC. Sometimes threads take on a life of their own. Looks like MikeL thinks itll be interesting, and he would know.
Victory Red 04-06-2005, 10:09 PM Like most things I'm sure the Caddy's and Vette's will get it first. Then there is always the well it's too slippery for the 'old style' clutches and it'll cause slipping or the new additives require a special seal so it'll eat ours away, or the most likely, way too expensive per quart since for the first 6 months it'll be a dealer only item.
Funny, I'm usually not this pessimistic.
Mike L. 04-06-2005, 10:59 PM We will have to see what it is and isn't compatible with. ( friction material ) This is a new ballgame guys and the wrong fluid in some of these late model cars and trucks will make it feel like the trans is total trash. If you use the wrong fluid in a new or rebuilt trans and the new clutch material soaks it up, you are finished. Drain and refill with proper fluid will not help. Only total clutch replacement will fix it.

McRat 04-07-2005, 12:16 AM They change the shock oil's viscosity electrically on some Vettes. It would be interesting to change the stall on a convertor by changing the viscosity dynamically. Push "Race" and it stalls at 4000, push "Economy" and it stalls at 1500 all by changes in the fluid. With a diesel, Tow/Haul could become a whole new ballgame.
And yes, I'm just rambling. :D
mudbug 04-07-2005, 04:24 AM Reading about this on Google it clearly states that this is for all 2006 and previous year Hydra-Matic trannys. Caddy's is one. Saw no mention of the Allisons.

MikeL is certainly right, though. For example, look what happens if you add a little "green" coolant to the new DexCool.....-:t Can you say "Mud"?
