: If you had to start over, what order would you mod? Any changes?

Just wanted to pick everyone's brain here about this. If you started over with your truck, could go back to the day you picked it up, what would you do different?

a)what order would you do you mods? (ie, what first? then second?)

b)Would you change anything? (ie, do this mod, but not do this mod, etc)

Thanks for any input.........

I woulda just bought the stage 5 and the TTS Xtreme from the start. I thought the juice would be enough......then I thought the hotjuice would be plenty......now I have a pile of nitrous parts

Build the tranny first, before any other mod! It WILL be the most expensive mod someday so you might as well get it done as soon as possible so you don't have to worry about it.

After the tranny, I would go with TTS Extreme.
Then twin turbos, then wings, and... oh wait, this is still a truck.

I might have looked at a LB7 instead. These were made from 2001-2004.

The engine changes at 2004.5 to current with the LLY version. You can tell which engine a 2004 has by looking at the 8th digit in the VIN, 1=LB7 2=LLY.

It is currently far easier to make big power with the LB7 due to increased availability of parts.

No matter what you select, the first decision is how fast you want to go. If you want to run quicker than 15.00, you should start with a trans upgrade and a big tuner and exhaust. If you want to just run 15.00 or slower, you can skip the trans and the exhaust if you want and just run a tuner.

If you want to run mid 12's or quicker, you should look at lighter versions of the truck. Xcab shortbed or regular cab(rare).

thanks for the input.

Which of the ATS or TTS allison upgrade kits would you recommend and would suffice?

Although the converter would hold I would bet, TTS dosnt really have any kit for balls out performance. I think 500hp or so is were they draw the line IIRC. Better get a full deal suncoast or a full deal ATS. I am happy with my suncoast as are a few of the really quick guys.

Unfortunately, tranny upgrades have been a hot topic of controversy around these parts because some people just can't stay objective about the subject and insist on letting egos get in the way of progress.

With that said, TTS doesn't actually make an upgrade kit. They make converters, and good ones at that from the research I've done. TTS was also responsible for assisting in the development of the Transgo shift kits for the Allisons.

I really doubt you'd go wrong with any of the big name players--focus more on how much power you want to hold than manufacturer. I'd choose a manufacturer based on the shop you decide to have do the upgrade--go with the one the installer feels most comfortable with. That's my two sense anyway.

yea, i need to decide how much power I want to make first i guess. Hmmm, It's a daily driver, gotta stay reliable, and cant get too powerful to where it just starts sucking diesel fuel like a locomotive like my last F350 did. Hmmm, i guess if it's 300hp stock, is 400-500 do-able without alot of 'hassle'? how much HP is the stock allison good for without possibly blowing up?

I personally wouldn't throw more than ~50 or 60 RWHP to the stock Allison for long term--I really think that you're holding ability and trans life will be compromised.

Lots of guys do throw way more power than this without technically "limping" it, but they also haven't been doing it for thousands upon thousands of miles.

I know a local guy who thought his Allison was indestructible and consequently toasted the stock Alli in 20,000 miles after throwing a Quadzilla tuner to it at 100+ RWHP levels.

In the near future, ~450 RWHP out of an LLY should be relatively easy on a single chip, and exhaust IMO provided you have a tranny to hold it!

And on another note, while big power may have some minor reliabity issues, you can go pretty big before mileage becomes an issue. If I drive my truck like a sensible being, I can get mileage equal to or SLIGHTLY better than stock even at approximately 350-360 RWHP. Just some food for thought. Have fun with it!

If you get an LLY, the TTS Tow is probably what you "need". You won't have to do anything else to the truck at all, and it will run just like stock but faster. On my truck, it yielded a 65rwhp gain to 311rwhp and dropped the ET's 2 full seconds with no other mods. Your stock exhaust, intake, and trans will be fine.

But there are bigger tuners out there. A warning:

There is one problem with "bigger tuners", they typically have 100rwhp or more as their highest setting. If you have good self control, get one. If you develop a thirst for power, you WILL need to do the trans at some point.

Ok, for the record.... McRat... you got me and now i am gonna send you the bill to clean my computer monitor.

5 Turbos.... not 6!

And the 5th one is still alive..... Besides, Bethoven's 5th was the good one.. and i believe that it works for turbos too.

#5 will live a long time at 9 PSI of boost with charger #2 taking over from there.

Juicegrips(TM) are now a thing of the past.

As far as Ebay, what can i say, I paid anywhere from 50$ to 150$ for turbos... still well below list from GM....lol

If there is now a shortage.... tough luck... i know who has my old cores ( I think 1 was salvageable.

Well yes, but it gives us another excuse to keep turning them up for even more power.

If I just set the cruise and don't do any mosquito fogging, I can get a realistic 17.5 MPG while cruising 70-75 MPH. That's not bad at all in my book.
