: Finally installed EGR Blocker today.
Tanc Crusher 01-23-2009, 07:42 PM Well the weather was great almost 60 degrees and day off work. Followed this post http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=261528&highlight=lmm+blocker+plate and took about 3 hours. Could have be done faster but the top nut is a pain to get loose but finally gave in. Cant say much on performance but at least resolved the egr opening up and causing lose of power. I guess next mod is pcv reroute. Hope it goes easier. Thanks to Chad from Alligator Performance for the plate and Nick from DuramaxTuner for tuning help.

AlligatorPerformance 01-23-2009, 07:58 PM Glad to hear you finally got it done. Those nuts can be a bitch!
Tanc Crusher 01-23-2009, 08:09 PM You are not kidding. Thought I never get that top one loose. Finally had breaker bar on it and a pry bar to pry it up. Broke lose like nothing. No busted knuckles or anything either. Glad it is done. Just got done on a 2 hour drive and no hickups like I was having.

Good deal. Always nice when you can finish that job w/o a busted knuckle...:D
Tanc Crusher 01-24-2009, 08:32 PM Well put another 200 plus miles today and all is great with it. I even must have fixed the annoying grinding sound when turning left. I found an exhaust bracket I made was a bit long and would hit the frame. Cut off about 1/2. Also tied a few cables up together when the wheel well cover was out. Did see if any steering and supension stuff was lose. Everything was tight. The only thing that did turn was the top shock nut. Maybe that was it.

Forgot to add a stiff back. Mine was a mess. I wasn't able to stand straight up for a few hours. Next time I do one, the hood comes off, antenna comes off, and I put a few moving pads on the fender and wear a back support.
Tanc Crusher 01-24-2009, 10:00 PM Tell me about it. I finally layed a blanket on the front climbing up and down so many times trying something different. My forearms are sore from shoving my arms in those tight areas. But glad I did it finally.

I have the blocker plate but haven't tried the install yet. I did actually get in there to loosen the bolts up but they are on there really tight with hardly o room, so I gave up. Did anybody use any kind of penetrating spray or WD-40 to help loosen the bolts???
TwistedLogic010 01-25-2009, 04:28 PM I just used my Snap-On wrenches to get them off. Firm even pressure gets them off. A tap with a hammer on the wrench helps.

What size wrench did u use, I can reach both of the nuts from the top, but to get a hammer in there is kind of tight...
Tanc Crusher 01-25-2009, 04:51 PM It is a 12mm nut. I had a 12 point socket on mine and 3/8 breaker bar. Then used my 2' screwdriver looking pry bar and got it under the breaker bar and rested on top of the large flange piece in front of where the blocker is going. Push down and broke it lose. I agree a hammer in there would be a trick.

TwistedLogic010 01-25-2009, 04:59 PM 12mm. Used my Snap On swivel head ratchet and wrench. Use the ratchet to break it loose then use a super short open end to do the rest. Make sure its a good quality one. Dont want to round off that nut.
DuraBio 01-26-2009, 07:22 PM Thanks guys, I'am going to try it again, this time with more patience and I will spray some WD-40 in there.
Blown98Roush 01-27-2009, 07:34 PM Installing the blocker plate on my truck was a PITA. One of the least-fun mods I've done in my life, but I'm glad I did it. It was definitely worth it in the end.
Tanc Crusher 02-01-2009, 10:20 AM I doubt pentrating oil will help much. Hard to get on it from that side. My best luck was use a pry bar and pry up on the breaker bar and rest the bar on top of the EGR to pry up. Just a little pressure and it comes lose easily.

DuraBio 02-02-2009, 01:02 PM The bottom is easy to take off, but the top is a pain in the a$$, just cant do it, I tried a 5" ratchet but no love, that thing is on there really tight, I'll keep tryin though...
DMcTighe 12-06-2010, 09:56 PM Mine was relatively easy, I must have been lucky? Under an hour, outside at -10 C
No blood or frostbite.
spooolin 12-07-2010, 01:48 AM I have the EGR plate waiting to install, this sounds like it will take some time. The PVC reroute is much easier, couldn't of taken me more than 20 mins.
jer27 12-07-2010, 02:31 PM Couple of question I'm not sure about. What's better blocker plate or a full EGR delete? If I'm using EFI Live to ture off my EGR why do I still need to us the plate or delete? The plate is sure a lot cheaper but I want what's best for the truck...
Thanks
Tanc Crusher 12-07-2010, 05:19 PM You can do either. The only benefit I see on complete EGR delete is you remove the EGR cooler than over time can leak and lose coolant. If there is no signs of lose coolant on ground, water pump weep hole, engine oil level increasing, or through a head gasket out the exhaust that leaves the EGR cooler as next place to look for leak. If you plate it you have to tune it out. They say if you just unplug it that it can blow open some at high boost. Some say it does not. I am staying out of that arguement.

rsss_camaro 12-07-2010, 10:53 PM I also did the egr blocker. I belive it took about 3 hours, a few bad words, and 15 different combinations of wrenches and sockets. Just be sure you use high quaitly tools and be persitant.
