Just got the truck i just bought inspected, they say needs new idler and pitman arm. 90 for one part and 125 for the other.

Any upgraded parts i should consider or does anyone know where I might get them cheaper? Just thought Id ask....

I saw the cognito upgrades but was wondering if there were just some beefed up replacements and if not maybe someplace I might get them discount....times are tight. Or do the prices quoted above sound reasonable?

Thanks in advance.

Without the braces every mfg of Pittman and idler arms will wear prematurely. We offer a complete package at our online store with free shipping.

i bought the higher dollar napa idler/pitman arm for the life time warrenty they offer on them. 10K later after they wore out i brought them back and they gave me new idler/pitman arms free of charge

Deffinatly do the braces when installing new arms. Even with lifetime warrenty you will get tired of changing parts often.

The napa parts are good. I used those when I replaces the pitarm and idler arm on my dmax. I also replaced all ball joints at the same time!

I been shopping online to see what kinda prices I can find.....

found some spicer/raybestos ones that are 25 bucks (red label service grade parts) then some other spicer/raybestos professional grade that are like 80 bucks. Seems strange theres such a big price difference.

Check out DMAXSTORE.com for their steering parts. They have lots of steering parts and their prices are very good. They helped me with my hub bearings.

What exactly do they brace?

I have seen photos of the brackets but not installed. Just trying to figure out how it works

They look like Moogs but at that price they're probably cheap overseas knock offs. I'd spend the extra cash and get the Spicer professionals from Rock Auto. Your truck is worth it.

you really think it would matter if you used the cognito braces??

Absolutely, I wasn't a big believer in them until I installed my Cognito 4-6" lift and they were included in the kit. Not only do they prolong the life of your Pitman and Idler arms they make the steering work like it should have been designed in the first place.

no, what I was saying is do you think it would matter if you used the cheap knockoff pitman and idlers if you installed the cognito braces as well. I have the braces already but i am going to put in a new steering box and the cognito idler arm bearing so i figured i would replace the pitman and idler arm at the same time

X2...I went with the Moog problem solver's..Lifetime warranty is needed because these parts wear quick.

Sorry, I guess I missread your question. Any moving part will eventually wear out even if you use the braces. The braces are made to prevent premature wear on those components so I suppose if you bought the cheap stuff they would probably last longer than they would without the braces, however if you spent a little extra cash for the good stuff then the life of the component would be a lot longer as well. "The bitterness of cheap quality remains long after the sweetness of low prices are gone". Personally, I would buy the better components.

Someone should really make a heavy duty pitman and idler arm that will withstand the abuse. SuperSteer (Henderson's Line Up) already makes a SS175 idler arm pivot.

im going to get the henderson pivot, probably going to build a bigger brace than what the cognito kit has though

The Henderson SS175 PLUS the cognito brace PLUS the weld in gusset is a strong set up from what I can see. You do realize that there is not much room in there to make anything larger.
