is there a fuse or anything for the warning chimes on an 03 2500 hd. I just installed a radio in my buddies truck for him and used the adapter to keep all the chimes and everything but they arent working anymore. radio and everything works just not the chimes. Just wanted to see if there is a fuse or something that could have blown before i call him tonight and tell him that with that radio they arent gonna work.

Why would you want to keep the annoying chimes anyways?

The warning chimes are generated in the factory stereo. When installing an aftermarket stereo, there is to be used a wiring harness adapter that not only allows plug and play operation, but also includes a warning chime speaker.

Since you don't have chimes, how did you get Key Hot to the stereo???
Is the stereo still on RAP (Retained Accessory Power)???
Does the stereo stay on when you're not in the truck???
Did you use a plug-n-play harness, or did you hack the wiring???

As asked above, did the adapter come with a prewired chime speaker? For example, Metra makes different harness adapters. one with chime retention and a less expensive one without. Since the aftermarket radio cannot generate chimes from the databus signal, it can't send them to the front left speaker. Wrong adapter = no chimes, (annoying as they are). The Metra unit I used has a REALLY loud speaker, If you use that particular adapter, bury it deep in the dash or your buddy might poop himself when it goes off!

I like the fact that in doing a favor for his friend, (installing the new head unit), he wants to return the truck performing as it was originally. I always used to unplug the chime modules in older GMs but as I get older I like the idea of getting everything I paid for and keeping the "convenience" features intact. Generally speaking, the closer to factory original, the better the resale or trade-in value. (IMHO)
