: Lb7 Predator Quarter Mile Times
dieselmaniac 04-05-2005, 12:04 AM i figured i would this out here for info to those predator users. i ran a couple passes with the predator on the 120hp setting in tow haul mode last spring. this was with the intake and exhaust. temp 60 truck weight about 7200lbs
2 wheel drive- 15.7 @ 90mph
4 wheel drive- 15.4 @ 89mph
due these sounds about right to anyone else. the damn check engine light went on all the time. main reason why i went to the edge asap.
IBDMAX'IN 04-05-2005, 12:11 AM Were these dead idle runs???? I would think if the predator is putting even close to 120HP you would've been running high 14's with a good boosted launch.

dieselmaniac 04-05-2005, 12:18 AM the 2 wheel was not much boost cause of wheel spin but the 4 wheel was a high boost launch. i think the check engine light cut the power back. it came on right after i took off

I have an 03 dually, and with the hot juice (145 hp) my runs at the pathetic air of LACR is typically 15.2 with a medium boost launch to save the tie rods (heavy 4x4, shell and about 300 lbs in the back of the truck). I've noticed my mph does not change at all regardless of whether I leave at idle or a high amount of boost (90 mph either way).
I've always thought MPH was a much better indicator of power rather than ET since you leave out all the launch crap that can change your ET dramatically.
Scotty Seelen 04-05-2005, 11:30 AM These times for the Predator and Hot Juice seem slow.
dieselmaniac 04-05-2005, 01:54 PM i thought so too and so now the predator is just a code reader and keeps my speed limiter off. the edge is 10 times better. though i am going to invest in a quad tuner
Mike L. 04-05-2005, 02:28 PM I made a pass at LACR Sunday on the 120 TTS program and ran 14.5 @ 90.5 mph.
BukWild 04-06-2005, 10:47 AM My best was 14.75 with my Predator.
McRat 04-06-2005, 10:56 AM 14.42@91 MPH at 7500lb with Predator 100 LLY at Cal Speedway. 14.50@90 LACR in good air;)
Yeah, I know it's an LLY. The point being that while the LB7 Predator might not live up to it's HP claims, the LLY version is a different animal entirely.
But comparing one tune to another must be done at the same day, same track, same truck, same driver, same 60'. 1/4mi times put out in a vacuum have no meaning. My ET's change with the same setup as much as 0.5 seconds depending on track conditions.
Oh, and my TTS#2 is a bit quicker than the Predator, same day same track same 60'
lakingslayer 04-06-2005, 11:05 AM I did a test yesterday morning. We have those lights on the onramps getting onto the freeway. I was at the light powerbraked just a little and off I went (2wd). Some old beater mini truck tried to cut me off so I had to let off the gas and swerve around him and got back on it. I got a 16.6sec @ 87mph with the juice on 3 and the 40hp pred tune. I guess it isn't too bad considering. I figure I could have had a 1 or more second better time if I had built more boost at launch and had a straight solid run.
kid hollyrock 04-06-2005, 07:01 PM last spring at mir budds creek md. my 04 went a 14.38 with the pred on 120,i was pretty happy with that.
BIG E 04-06-2005, 07:19 PM 14.865 @ 90.72 , 2.211 60 ft. 2-wd w/little boost. 120 predator on 33" at's
Victory Red 04-06-2005, 09:38 PM I've only done the track once with my Predator. My best time was 15.63 but these were no boost takeoffs. I also changed settings each run, from 65 -85-120 and limped in the 120 setting. Reason for no boost launch, a guy two trucks ahead of me(can't remember his name right now but this was at Union Grove in Sturtevant WI in case you're reading here) bent his tie rod after 20 feet of 4 wheel spin, shudder then stop(and this is before SD's tie rod sleeves existed). Scared the crap out of me so i got a little gunshy.
dieselmaniac 04-07-2005, 01:26 AM sounds like i was doing something wrong or my predator is messed up. i had to send it back as soon as got it cause it wasn't programmed for the 2004 lb7. never had a chance to do a good run with the edge/duramaximizer. i got a load of dirty fuel and clogged my filter. I nailed fine through 1 and 2 but it hit 3rd flattened right out, went home and the filter was bad. had enough to feed level 2 but not 5.

Are you saying you made these runs a year ago, and are just now posting them? I never ran at the track with the Predator, but according to the G-Tech, my 7,240 truck was running 14.875 @ 93.70 mph and 14.997 @ 88.53 mph in very similar weather as your run. Those were pretty regular for the Predator. The stealth always beat it, and seemed to feel better at normal driving, so I quit using the Predator. Although it was quicker from 0-50 mph, then the Quadzilla Stealth, from 50 on up, the Stealth killed the predator. (From 50 to 60 the Stealt took just 1. 57 sec, while the Predator took 2.11 sec.) This is all G-Tech information, so they may be different then the track.
dieselmaniac 04-07-2005, 10:32 AM yeah i was cleaning out the truck and found the timeslips from last march. in regards to the g-tech i have heard lots of conflicting things on how accurate they are.

The time is extremely accurate, but the mph almost always will show 2-4 mph high.
I have run at the track (Only 6 passes, but still enough to show a consistancy) with the G-Tech, and that is what it proved to me. I believe that the mph shows higher because it reads all the way down the track, (It reads the G-force of the vehicle as it moves) where as the 1/4 race track reader only reads at a few spots, IE: the 60 ft., 1000 ft., 1/8 mi., and 1/4 mile.
I think where the G-Tech gets a bad rap, is many owners, either don't know the vehicle weight, so they guess, or they program in a much higher weight, which throws everything off. I have had my truck weighed at least 12 different times, So I know what it weighs, and I have made adjustments on the G-Tech as fit over time. I keep the G-Tech setup and ready too go all the time. I am sure some just stick it upon the windshield without doing the proper setup. I probably have went through the calibrations 8-10 times in the 2 1/2 years I have had it. The G-Tech is only as accurate as the setup!
I would guarantee that if I set it up on your truck, or anyone else`s truck/car the 1/4 mile time would be within 1/10 of a second. (As long as I knew all the imporant vehicle information, ie: red line, weight ect.)
Scotty Seelen 04-07-2005, 11:03 AM Exactly. It reads very accurate times, but speed reads a little fast.
