I received my special order LLY 3500SRW Dmax about one year ago, and I just hit 2000 posts on this board, so I would like to share some thoughts.

The truck ran 17.69 when brand new at LACR dragstrip, and a year later it ran 13.56 at the same track. Total parts to remove over 4 seconds and make it run with modern sportscars?

One ECM tuner
One trans buildup
One cheapo NAWWWSS system
One 4" exhaust pipe
One lift pump
One fuel pickup

Normally to make a vehicle drop 4 seconds off it's stock ET takes a HELL OF ALOT more than that. To put it into perspective, take a 2002 Corvette (12.48 stock), and you would need about $40,000 to do the same thing. Even starting with a regular gasser pickup, it would take at least $10,000 and a lot of luck.

Mileage is actually slightly better than stock. It's almost surreal. It's the Hot Rod Fantasy: Make your vehicle haul ass, with NO downside. It doesn't happen in real life, but turbo diesels apparently defy the #1 Law of Hotrodding - "There is no free lunch".

I've learned a few new sports!

Sled Pulling - Nothing shows brute force as much as a sled pull. Dragging a 40,000lb+ sled through the dirt has a great "Tim Allen" factor.

Smoke the Ahole - When some arrogant little bastage gives you grief on the road, it is FAR more satisfying to bury them in a cloud of #2 than to just zing by them in a sportscar.

Hill Climbing - No, not with a nitromethane Harley with a 4' swingarm and a paddletire, but there is a certain satisfaction you get hauling a big azz trailer uphill at 75mph past overheating cars and wound-out econoboxes.

The future of performance trucks has no spark plugs. A mear handful of years ago, the diesels available on the lots were slugs. It was only a vehicle you bought if you needed better mileage while towing. Today, it is the truck engine of choice for those who want high performance in a heavy vehicle.

Hail to the new King: The Turbo Diesel. The future is here.

PS - Yes, I've had a few cold ones. :D

That is what I find so intriguing - performance, decent mileage and the ability to pull a 10000# trailer with ease.

Haha. Right on!
One thing though, I am sure you have learned lots from the people at this website, but you are one of those people. I and I'm sure several others have learned from you, your accomplishments and your goal. This website is truly awesome, almost like a big family. I think it is amazing the help all of these wonderful people offer, this is truly what our world should be like.
Mc Rat, congrats on you accomplishments and good luck for your future endeavors.

Patrick, you said it best.

(Me thinks you forgot about the "As a bonus, it also turned my wife into a racing (or raving) lunatic, too" part) :ro)

I've found that when talking about "most bang for the buck", you cannot beat a diesel pickup. ):h

Who'd a thunk that?

Then the diesel truck came along and found Nick's site here. Then...............

I did the ECM change on Kat at a track called Carlsbad (RIP) 4 years ago using a LS1 powered stock Camaro SS and a 50,000v cattle prod. It was one of those Frankenstein thangs.

I created a monster! :muahaha:

Hmmm... Now that I think of it, the Camaro SS ran 13.59@106 on it's first time at the track, and Sunday I finally bested that number.

What it not normal for a wife to want to go drag racing for her Anniversay ?

I even arranged for Big Blue to become a Vette for few hours so he could run at the track in Vegas this weekend since there is no TnT sch:eek:

Stand by for video of the tow vechicle racing the other Corvettes

I will have to agree that this site is awesome! There is no better site on the internet in my opinion! It is unbelievable the knowledge floating around this place and what one call learn just by reading a few posts on here. I remember around February of last year I was looking at buying my first diesel pickup and wanted to know more info about it. Well I happened about this place and learned more in a couple of days than I ever would have known in a lifetime. I went to the dealership "armed" with knowledge of the truck I was going to purchase and it has been great ever since. It seems like no matter what questions are asked, someone has an answer and is willing enough to help you out.

Thank you DP!!!!! :ro)

First of all, McRat..Excellent analogy...

And, 05LLY....there's one word missing in the bold type.....dysfunctional...):h
I will say this though, McRat is one of the few people here that started a thread in power&performance that we agree with....:D

Shhhh! This thread is a subversive mind game using a sublimal message:

"Guys, we have more in common than we have differences, so lighten up on your fellow enthusiasts!"

Keep it between me and you though.

OPPPSSS! Is this the PM screen or the Performance Wrestling Arena?

Kat...you didn't really forge the Vette info onto Big Blue, did you? That woulda been a riot to see those Vette owners faces!

Tom :cool:I would have if I could have. But they all know the Blue Meanie and Big Blue. I just needed him to be able to run with the Vettes until Bracket racing starts. As I'm sure then they will have a lane open for people that loose brackets.

But I will have him make a couple passes in Vette. He has been racing the Big Blue so much he has become rusty in the Meanie:D

Rusty?? Last time out I ran 11.45/11.54(spun)/11.40/11.45 all with .0xx lights! IIRC

But I know with seat time you can do much better:bow: You have what 6 passes in the last 4 months and haven't driven it except for on and off the trailer. Not that I'm complaining that you have been letting me race ithttp://www.qinsp.com/k/love.gif I just know you are better then .05 that you are faster then me
