How can I check the issues discussed here regarding injectors, pumps, trans, etc? I am willing to buy some equipment.

I have been to three different dealers in Houston. Got three different answers (none of them costing less than 2,000 dollars, and nobody wanting to replace injectors under special policy!)

I've got white smoke at idle, strong diesel smell, rough jittery idle.

I gather from other posts that I need to be able to check:

Balance Rate
Rail Pressure
Fuel Return Rate
ANYTHING ELSE???

EFILive can do balance rates, fuel rail, and some transmission tunning. Not sure what all it can modify on the transmission or if there is a thing for fuel return rate. No idea on pumps or what you are referring too there. Read through the post in the EFILive section to get an understanding and asks questions there. Cindy from EFILive checks the post and answer them.

EFI Live or a TECH II can check all you need and log it too. I recommend EFI Live as its tuning, scanning and logging for less than a grand. A Tech II is couple grand. No tuning.

Fuel return rate cannot be checked without labor.

Is the fuel filter fresh?
Do you have fuel in the oil? Rising oil level?
Any change in mpg's?

There are other diesel performance shops that can diagnose problems. The dealer isnt the only one.
