I just purchased a 2003 2500hd duramax/allison. It has a k&n air intake among other mods, and ive read that the aftermarket air intakes are no good or even bad for the trucks because they let oil into the turbo. I confess that i dont know much about diesels or performance being that this is my first one. I have been looking for a diesel to add to my business since about june last year when gasoline prices were so high. Can anyone tell me from their experience why they dont recommend them and any problems they have had as a result of installing one. I obviously cant compare performance as it was installed when i bought it. also any good web sites i can visit to buy a stock air intake for my truck. thanks for your help.

i have a k&n on mine. the problem i had was i put too much oil on mine and ran it. i actually dont think i put too much on but it went through the filter and got into the MAF sensor that's located in the intake tube. It threw a code i forgot which one, one of my engine banks were running to rich. I have no idea how much oil got into my turbo. Plus on top of that the mounting bracket on the block snapped. so yea go to paper filter if you can. I hear the stock one is the best

you have a good intake on there and don't let anyone tell you otherwise... This site has more posts about how horrible K&N is yet 50% of the people have an intake installed on their truck. be it S & B, K&N, Banks or Airaid......

you will have problems if you over oil the filter but all it takes to fix is a simple cleaning of the MAF sensor.

thanks for the replies and for the informative comparison thread. i still dont know how to feel about the aftermarket but i guess i cant go wrong with a stock intake. still i agree with the idea that if you dont over oil the filter you wont have problems with oil getting into the turbo. another question is, do the k&n intakes have covers on them, are they enclosed? mine is wide open, to the engine compartment.

Have had mine for over a year now and never had a single problem. Like cumminskiller04 said just don't over oil it when it comes time to clean it.
