: Would you buy...
Sinecure1 01-21-2009, 11:17 AM Would you purchase a 2007 GMC Sierra 2500 SLT Classic with 92,350 miles on it?
The truck is loaded with everything I want, I just think the miles are kinda high. What types of service should I be expecting to perform on a vehicle with this mileage?
Thanks.
What is the asking price?
you may have to major service.
Sinecure1 01-21-2009, 11:33 AM $22,500
Chevkid03 01-21-2009, 01:00 PM Considering the fact that you could have gotten a NICELY equipped 08' for about 28k, I would say pass... You'll need to do all fluids at least... BIG BUCKS.. and if your going to take out a loan for it, you'll be driving a 5 year old truck with probably 300+k miles on it when your done paying it off.. I would say pass... Although it isn't much of a comparison, I just bought an 07 LBZ Reg cab with a good amount of bells and whistles with a brand new 8' Fisher SS X-blade for 24k. Only has 24k miles on it too..
Duramaxer1 01-21-2009, 01:28 PM Run far away!! That truck is way over priced. You can buy mine for 29k! Its only got 39k miles.

Sinecure1 01-21-2009, 02:55 PM I agree that it is overpriced, but every 06-07 I find is overpriced, and it's what's crazy is that it's a sellers market right now for 06-07's because so few people want the new ones with all the DPF emission controls. I've been actively looking for about 2 months now and honestly $22,500 for an 07 with almost 100k miles is probably the best deal I've seen! Just the other day I passed on an 07 with 44k miles, asking $26,500, and it was an SLE.
From everything I've read on this board, I think my best bet is to get a LBZ. I'm reading about too many problems with the other versions of the Duramax.
clsd350 01-21-2009, 08:02 PM I just bought my 07 lt model cc sb 4x4 with 46000mi for 25,000 in Cali.
jimmyjones 01-22-2009, 10:40 AM I think Sinecure1 is right. It is a sellers market for the 06-07. I just bought mine a week ago. It is a 2007 CC 4X4 LT3 with only 10,500 miles on it. All stock except of nerf bars, ARE shell and BedRug. I paid $30,000 for it. I know 30K is alot but well worth it to me. Truck still smells new.
Coolbreeze 01-22-2009, 10:53 AM Yeah well if it is a seller market then how come they would only give like $14K for a trade on that truck. I believe that $29K is a lot for that truck and as far as maintenance I would expect that truck to have to have quite a lot of front end work if it hasn't already been done. Tie rods, Pitman and idler and maybe even ball joints.
LBZFireman 01-22-2009, 10:59 AM For reference I bought mine the last week of December. It is a 2007 Classic CC/SB fully loaded with 20,000 miles and I got it for $25900. I think that was fair...
Dirtbikindad393 01-22-2009, 11:13 AM Sinecure1 before you shut this truck down based on others opinions get some information and make an informed decision on this one.
Is this from a dealer or private party?
Will you finance?
Do you know anything about the miles on it. I would guess with that many miles a good majority are hwy. That isn't a bad thing actually. Were they towing miles or just driven by the previous owner?
Do you know anything about the service? Get the records and look at them. If you can get the vin number get it and post it here so somebody can get you a look at warranty inquiries and service done at the dealer.
Then armed with the information you can be better suited to bargin the price down or....... say yes if its been maintained very well with no warranty issues if you want this truck.
There are MANY more miles left in the truck thats for sure. Its just a matter of how its been treated in the first almost 100k.
Please post up some info and get the vin if you can.
Sinecure1 01-22-2009, 01:01 PM Dealers are giving $14k because that's what dealers do. They tell you that your particular vehicle will be really difficult to sell and that they're doing you a favor by offering $14,000. Then they turn around and ask $25k for it, and settle on $23k. That's why dealerships make most of their money on their used cars.
Anyway, I've already done a vin check, which can be seen here (http://dmaxcentral.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1648). Nothing out of the ordinary. It's coming from a wholesaler and the truck has been reposessed, so there is no history or anything on the vehicle. All I know is that it looks to be in decent shape.
Yes I will finance putting about 25% down, then selling my current truck, and putting that money towards the loan. I would hope to have it paid off within 2 years.
It is an ebay auction, so unfortunately there is no bargaining power. The current price has not hit the reserve, and it's still about $2000 from the "Buy It Now" price. I honestly don't expect this one to last. From every Sierra 2500 SLT diesel truck I've looked at over the past few months, this price is one of the best I've seen considering the age and condition of the vehicle.
Sinecure1 01-22-2009, 01:05 PM Here's (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220343927736&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&viewitem=) the link to the truck in question. I really value the opinion of all you experts on here, and if it is a stellar deal, all I can do is hope that no one goes in and grabs it before I get a chance. :)
Sinecure1 01-22-2009, 01:57 PM I called the phone number listed in the auction and asked about the condition of the bed. He said the bed is in perfect condition with a spray-in bedliner, and that there is a gooseneck hitch installed.
If you knew this truck was a hotshot truck and had probably spent most of those 92000miles pulling at least a 4000lb trailer unloaded, loaded probably triple that, would you still buy it?
GMC2500HD 01-22-2009, 02:03 PM Well since the truck was made 07/06, it is over a year and a half old.. Soon to be 2 years old. I guess if he drives long distance or was hauling it is not bad mileage.. Would see no reason not to buy it.. Have you made it to Houston to look at the truck?
Sinecure1 01-22-2009, 03:54 PM Unfortunately no I have not. I will be going next week, which is after the auction ends, but if it ends with no winner I will call the guy and make an appointment.

steakman 01-22-2009, 06:01 PM A trade in is a hell of a lot different than a private sale...big time. The guy taking it in as a trade needs to make some coin...mind you 14k is low balling big time depending on condition...mileage is in my mind not much of an issue especially in the 100k or less. The lbz should be good for at least 350-400k without major overhaul...given you look after it and don't drive like ya stole all the time either..!!
22,500 is a pretty good price expecially if it's loaded SLT. Great motor, great 6spd..go for it and offer the guy 21.!
FYI: There are plenty here that paid damned near double that 1-2 years ago...for similar mileage and likely less trim. And don't ask me how I know that little morsel either..!! ($38,500 + 7% GST CAD in Feb 2007 - 35k).
AND I WAS HAPPY TO GET THAT DEAL...!!!! Mind you, that was when the CAD was nearly on par with the USD too. I'm now at 113,500 and it runs like a top. No major issues.
I would buy it ... especially if I had known it had pulled a 4000 trailer for a fair bit..(which isn't much for the 650ft/lbs of torque these units have stock). IMHO, Good workout for the motor and the tranny.!! Just nicley broke in.!!!

Cheers
steakman 01-22-2009, 06:10 PM Just looked at the link. Looks identical to mine the day I pulled into the driveway.! and its an SLT / leather-heated seats...no less...Im only an SLE
BEAUTIFULL WHITE..!! nice...git er bye, git er soon..!!

MBILLS 01-22-2009, 07:13 PM If that truck has stayed in Texas all its life, I would say offer the dealer 21k or so. Cant speak much for around the Houston area, but if it was from anywhere else in TX it was in a dry climate with no salty winter driving and mostly highway miles. I put on about 35k miles a year because everything is FAR around here. I rarely make less than a 50 mile round trip. The wear on the seats and brake pedal says a lot about driving style too. I have friends that drive hotshot trucks and they beat the hell out of their trucks and you can tell immediately by the overall condition. You say it has a gooseneck so the owner probably had a horse or something that he pulled once a month. I would not be afraid to get that truck if I knew she was from TX or a western state.
-Just my 2 cents....
mga60t 01-22-2009, 07:26 PM I think that is to high of mileage. I bought 7 months ago a 2007 classic crew cab, with 8,500 miles, a work truck, no carpet(which is very nice) or any of the bells an whistles. In my opinion a lot less of things to go wrong. A great looking truck for $24,000 out the door. The fuel was almost $5 a gallon so I really believe that is why I got the truck so cheap. I do miss the power door locks and power windows but you get over it very quick once you own a diesel. What a great TRUCK!!!
Sinecure1 01-22-2009, 10:02 PM Well the auction ended without reaching the reserve. I called the guy and he offered to sell it for $21,900. So barring an inspection and test drive, I'll offer him what I think is fair based on it's condition. I plan on driving to Houston in the next few days to check it out. This is my first step into the world of diesel... I hope I'm not making a huge mistake.
rdwilson 01-22-2009, 10:52 PM i know mine is not an 07, but, i purch (stole)from an eqpt dealer = 06 c/c dually, lbz 6spd ally , bose & power-buckets(cloth) new tires (50 ) miles on them, w/146000 miles for $$ 12972. tax title & B plate, it just takes lots of looking, &(some chiseling):D.... BTW it was well maintained & runs, looks, & drives Great
