I need a block for a 1998 k2500. Anybody know what other year blocks will work? Thanks

Look at your block casting number back outside wall of the block, by the bell housing and flywheel. You probably have a 506 block, really any block will work, but just be careful of some of the early '97 506 blocks; they had the piston squirters and were prone to cracking.

Pick a year.

The 6.5's and 6.2's are all interchangable, all years.

If you go the 6.2 route though, you'll need a complete block, as the bottom ends are 6.2 and 6.5 specific.

It's the top end, (heads, manifolds, pump, covers and turbo) that will go on a 6.5/6.2, from the other engine.

look for a 599 block with no cracks and install a girdle kit and gear drive...my 0.02

Why not a new gep block? Weak spots fixed, better material. For a used block a 91-93 599 6.2 block. Bore to stock 6.5. Oil line port for turbo is there.

*Cringes* Did I just read "Bore it out to 6.5L" regarding a 6.2???????

do NOT bore out the 6.2 into a 6.5....the 599 block is strong as a 6.2, not so much as a 6.5....use it as a 6.2 Turbo...you'll have plenty of power...

well you can...i guess...its your money...but be prepared to replace the block again...and just remember everyone wants a 599 block, so be prepared to piss people off if you blow one :p:.

i honestly think you should go a used 599 block...the new blocks price doesn't really justify it unless you are going for the extreme performance end

if you want a second opinion....post a thread in the 6.2 forum asking about 599 blocks and turbo 6.2's
